Even worse than SOPA: New CISPA cybersecurity bill will censor the Web — RT
Well, what a surprise. Most all Republicans, the champions of less Government and the staunch supporters of the Constitution voted for this bill. Where's MS..........let see him defend these idiots, yet again. |

The ramifications of this bill vice the current standards-based bill in the Senate is that the companies are not required to implement good security practices that will mitigate the effects of cyberthreats, but will offload that responsibility via datasharing to the Federal Government a la "We thought the FBI or NSA would alert us in time to defend our network. Isn't that what CISPA meant?"
It overlooks the basic practices of decades of setting minimum safety and security requirements to protect critical infrastructure. An appropriate analogy would be construction in flood or hurricane zones: info-sharing with the government, by weather reports, will somehow keep bridges up, roads clear, and services running in the event of a severe storm; but don't require us to have any minimum construction standards or report our weaknesses to you so you can adequately prepare to help us when the storm hits, since we'll take care of that better on our own. |

Don't we just love the nanny-state? The gov can do just about anything if we let it.
