What is my 528e = In a mercedes?????
Ok I know it would be equal to a e class in later years but which one a 300e 2.6 (aka260e) a 300e? Also did Mercedes offer any comption other than diesel in 1983?

I think the Mercedes equivalent would be a 1983 280E...

I'm not sure if it was in 1983, but I've seen some US 280E's from 1978....
These 280E's are awesome and very fast for W123's... I even find the 300CD to be plenty fast for my needs..

i have seen a 280ce but never a 280e

They stopped importing them in '81 or '82. The emisions equipment just robbed power from the engine, Euro 280E's had 177hp and US had 142hp (Cali versions had 137hp). A Euro 280E can cruise at 200km/hr (124mph), but a US loaded down with more weight can't hit 110mph. I test drive a Cali 280E and let me tell you these cars aren't very fast. I kept thinking it was a diesel but the clatter at idle was strangly missing.
