Post this one in the SL forum if you haven't already...there are some experts in this arena over there...

The out-of-sequence issue I believe is covered in the owners manual, but it may require disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to let the top operation reinitialize itself, and then starting over with the process. It will then re-learn the operation and open and close properly.

...but I'm just guessing here...
