Hope whatever c**t called the donut-munchers gets sideswiped by a drunk running a red light and roasts in the ensuing fire. Jerkwater USA politics and intimidation at its finest. Who wants to bet that the chief muncher was the c**t's first cousin? Via two branches of the family tree, if you know what I mean

Second, the police absolutely have an obligation to arrest an individual if a "respected" entity such as a dealership claims the vehicle was stolen. The dealership would automatically get the benefit of the doubt in this situation so your anger at the police is woefully misplaced, as usual. Finally, the stupidity of that dealership will certainly result in a handsome settlement for the vehicle owner. They have absolutely no defense and they'd better settle out of court. My bet is they'll be paying about $25K for this "error". |

With the strong possibility of at least one extra "0" included in that figure.

This wasn't a legit call to police. This was intimidation, most likely with the complicity of the police. If the cops were above-board, the c**tmuffin who filed the report would be sitting in county jail for filing a false police report right now.
Norfolk area is essentially Jerkwater. You have locals, some tourists, and a transient military population that's exploited by locals, not much else. |

I'm doubtful. The individual suffered for four hours due to a false arrest and was released. It's highly unlikely he'll get anything near $100K for such an adventure unless it goes to the jury, in which case all bets are off.

That would be a factually incorrect statement, unless you have some support for it. That would be another factually incorrect statement by a person who has clearly never been there. Shooting your mouth off about things for which you know nothing isn't going to make you look like a genius around here. |

and how about the attending bad publicity for the stealership? I imagine the locals will steer clear of the place and maybe steer clear of all chevrolet dealerships. It's typical knee jerk mentality of the car business. It's another in a long list of reasons why people tend to NOT trust a car dealer/salesman.

It's temporary.

Given the matter is one of $$$, it would probably be seen as a civil matter, not one for the police. After all they did hand him the keys ! Over here if some DB drives onto your property & you block their car in. You can have them removed from the property without their car. They need to obtain a court order (civil) at their expense to remove their car. This also applies to the police. They leave their car at the gate & walk to the front door. I once blocked a truck loaded with hay until it was paid for. He rang the police, I also talked to them. I took the driver to the bank to get cash so he could not bounce a check.

Having worked in various retail establishments, I can say the smart ones would more than take their time to fully investigate the facts BEFORE calling the police in on any matter. Also, IF (and that's a big IF) the buyer was thought to be acting in a less than honest manner, best to call him/her on the telephone and give him/her the opportunity to correct the problem FIRST. (Note; after reviewing this post, I am making changes....) In the instant case, the buyer signed and the dealer signed making it a a DONE DEAL.

Read the article -- the dealer attempted to bully the customer into signing a contract for the "correct" price. If the guy's story is correct, what they did was basically criminal harassment.
