Advice on non-MB wheels

I now own 2 GM G-30 CUBE vans, one ton type, one 1986 the other 1993. Both 6.2L diesel, modern one has a 4 speed 80LE

I just took the 1993 on a 4,000 mile trip where it performed brilliantly.
I had bought it from the gov't with 42,000 on it, hardly used.

The one I am now working on starting next week, is a 1986, 6.2L diesel with THM400 trans, thus limited to about 60 mph. 32,000 on the clock

My question:
The older one has 16.5 " rims, the newer one has 16" rims.

Each has spares.

I would like to standardize the rims and get 4 more 16" rims for the older vehicle since it's not doing any transcontinental trips (not designed for AC) and just sell the 16.5 eight-bolt rims.

What's the opinion of the group here?

Tires on the 16.5" rims are good but standardization is less expensive in the long run.

Would "E" load-rated 16" LT tires equal or exceed the load and speed rating of the 16.5" tires? Is there sufficient brake caliper clearance to allow the slightly smaller rims to work?

I would run the tires until they're dead and keep your eyes peeled for a set of 16" cheapos in the meantime.

x2 on checking your brake clearance.

Should be 8x6.5 bolt pattern... Dont know about the offset though.

IMO, you can pick up a set of 16" 2500HD 8 lug wheels cheap now (bolt pattern is 8x6.5, and a set is like 250 for 4 with tires), which would give you the bolt pattern that you need.

If you were local, I would let you test fit one of my stock wheels.

Conversly, if you wish to stop by my house on your way to CA, I'll give you 5 good 8 lug 16.5 rims.... (plus the other stuff we talked about)

OTO, I think that 17" Hummer H2 rims would bolt right on...
