I'm confused: so the dumb bint didn't tell you she called the cops, yet you stuck around because she told you to? Couldn't you have given her a banana and walked out the door?

She said they were trying to fix a problem with the store's register computer. Since I've had no criminal experience, I had no clue she was actually stalling me until the 'Swat Team' arrived!
Thinking about it now, had I walked out, she could've reported the tag number off my car.
Then I might have had the State Police chasing my 240D down I-95!

I think that I'd have walked out on general principle -- ain't no purchase important enough to wait half an hour for some dumb bint to fix a computer. I doubt the cops would have chased you if you'd have returned the item or paid in cash. They'd probably have gave the dumb bint trouble for calling them for a non-issue.

Then they'll take 45 minutes to arrive and get lost on the way, at least with my luck I was carjacked outside of DC. The cops were about as useful as tjts on a boar (though, since my wallet was stolen as well, one of the detectives was nice enough to lend me $10 for the train home, I'll admit). After the car was found in Virginia, we went to pick it up, only to find that it had "disappeared" from the impound lot.

I do not hesitate to call them if I think something bad is going on. I live six blocks from the headquarters so they show up in minutes. I have run across a cop with a bad attitude, once that I can remember in my life. If I need help I will take my chances with the police without hesitation.

We have had the odd corrupt one or two from time to time. About 30 years ago a local judge had a gang of some corrupt cops who would break into people the judge knew had things of value and steal them for him. I don't know about the other guys but the judge went to jail.

The judges brother used to run a first rate alignment and frame shop.

Speaking of cars disappearing from impound areas, this is isn't all that uncommon. The guys who work the front desk may know a chop shop owner who pays them a couple of hundred under the table to send them nice cars. You come in to pick up your car and WHOOPS! WE CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE!! Shocking.

In my area, there is a certain towing service that has had the City contract the last fifty years. Amazingly, when the contract with the City comes up for renewal, like magic, they are awarded the contract. I've heard stories for as long back as I can remember of cars getting towed that happened to have a nice set of golf clubs, snap-on tools, etc etc disappear from the trunk. When the owner went to pay the tow bill and storage fee it was, "What golf clubs? Fred, did you see any golf clubs? No, Sir, when we towed your Cadillac we didn't notice any golf clubs in the trunk. Now, sign here and give us $500 for towing and storage fees and we'll give you the keys. It has been a pleasure doing business with you."

I checked the VIN when I had an unlimited Carfax a few years later. Exported to Saudi Arabia about a week after it "disappeared."

There is a good chance she was dating one or more of the Swat team members. She was helping them find and locate any and all "criminals".

Charlottesville

I have a ladyfriend who lives in C'ville and have heard her speak about issues with attempted sexual assaults and attempted abductions in C'ville, Harrisonburg, etc and I don't blame the young lady for reacting as she did.

There has been an ongoing open case of a serial rapist using a Blue PO light in an unmarked police type vehicle pulling over women in the AC area for quite a while. Local cops and Saties have done little or nothing to apprehend him.

Several women I know in the area have all been packing in self defense, and all can definately hit what they aim at.

These bozos are lucky they didn't get shot.

The quality of life in C'ville has been steadily going downhill as the cops are too busy writing up traffic tickets but ignore the bar patrons who brawl through the community on the South side of C'ville after the bars/clubs close at 2 AM (former residentail area now mixed use/club area). Public Intoxication, Unrination, Vandalism, Harassment fo any woman walking alone, etc are ignored as the city doesn't want to piss off the new "businesses" that are the newer tax base so they go for the easy marks and hassle decent kids.

I know the store and the neighborhood and its easier to score weed within 2 blocks than it is to find a college kid buying beer.

^^^

I have to say that I wasn't impressed with C'ville the few times I've been there. The area immediately around U Va. is nice, but the "downtown" is remarkably tiny for a university town of that size. 2/3 of the city outside of the uni area seems to be either ghetto or hillbilly heaven -- not what one would expect from a fairly isolated college town.

Approximately fourteen years ago, there was a guy in New Jersey with Starsky and Hutch police emergency lights pulling women over on fake traffic stops and raping them. As a result, New Jersey decided that all police cars would be plainly marked. The plain clothes cops/plain wrapper police cars are a BAD IDEA.

Sadly, this story is being repeated all over the country. We are going to H*** in a hand bag.
