Wow, 19 year old looking at ten years for facebook comment
Teen Justin Carter Faces Trial And Jail For Facebook Comment - Business Insider
Strange stuff, the kid makes a sarcastic if ill advised remark on facebook and has been in jail for several months awaiting $500K bond (finally posted by a donor) with trial to begin shortly for making terroristic comments.

What you say by communicating/writing on-line, cell phone, through social media or other means, etc. is evidence against you when push comes to shove by law enforcement. Some, haven't figured that out yet.

Time served ought to cover it, and will if cooler heads prevail. Oh man, the wired world. Everyone can hear you on Facebook.
As a side note, this story can almost serve as a study on the folly of the way we incarcerate people. A soft 19 year old kid thrown in with general population. He's been bullied and abused. And also been put in solitary confinement naked owing to depression. I got picked up for being overly vocal during a bad acid trip in '74. At one point they stripped me and put me in a padded cell. Was there for about 24 hours (I'm guessing). Very weird experience. I suspect that's where they put the kid. Maximum suicide prevention.

You've got to be careful. The advancement of numerous forms of technology may be spying on all of us at any given time or media. It's a fact of life. I can cite at least two examples of being stopped and questioned while out and about walking on public as well as private property, where technology permitted those in authority to scrutinize you from an eye-in-the-sky to the extent of challenging you by confronting in a very quick manner. The eye-in-the-sky may now and forever be present almost anywhere.

It is hard to believe. I wonder if there is more to the story?

Further proof that the written word is damned near impossible to understand. You cannot hear voice pitch change, cannot see eye rolls or smirks behind the glow of a computer monitor.

DAMN! Dude said some stupid stuff while he was excited. Who hasn't? You should have heard the things I said to my 240D the first time I changed a starter in it. Good thing the fuzz didn't. I might be on trial for war crimes from a war that happened decades before I was born.

This is George Orwell's 1984 come to life. You can now be charged with "thought crimes". When the neighbors get upset over a bumper sticker you have on your car, they send in the Dream Police.
The dream police, they live inside of my head The dream police, they come to me in my bed The dream police, they're coming to arrest me, oh no You know that talk is cheap And those rumors ain't nice And when I fall asleep I don't think I'll survive the night, the night 'Cause they're waiting for me They're looking for me Every single night they're driving me insane Those men inside my brain The dream police, they live inside of my head (Live inside of my head) The dream police, they come to me in my bed (Come to me in my bed) The dream police, they're coming to arrest me, oh no Well, I can't tell lies 'Cause they're listening to me And when I fall asleep Bet they're spying on me tonight, tonight 'Cause they're waiting for me They're looking for me Every single night they're driving me insane Those men inside my brain I try to sleep, they're wide awake, they won't let me alone They don't get paid to take vacations or let me alone They spy on me, I try to hide, they won't let me alone They persecute me, they're the judge and jury all in one 'Cause they're waiting for me They're looking for me Every single night they're driving me insane Those men inside my brain The dream police, they live inside of my head The dream police, they come to me in my bed The dream police, they're coming to arrest me The dream police The dream police The dream police The dream police The dream police - Cheap Trick "The Dream Police" Cheap Trick - Dream Police Live on Conan - 1/13/11 - YouTube |

Certainly not the usual retort when angry with someone. Not even the most excitable member here could match that one.

That sounds tame compared to some of the more extreme death metal lyrics. People b**tched about death metal in the 80s, but I don't think anyone actually went to jail for singing it. OK, maybe they did in Iran and the Soviet Union:

From the "other side" of the equation. Let's say you're the complaint and evidence comes across your desk as a prosecutor in this town. The options are to ignore it as a adolescent prank and youthful indiscretion . . . and then hope nothing happens; or you continue to investigate and bring it to a grand jury to see whether they feel and indictment should issue.

Death metal bands don't even take themselves seriously. Neither do any of their fans, its a way of being goofy and outlandish.
