Whup-Ass is OFFENSIVE while ASS Whippin' is DEFENSIVE. When someone says, "I am going to WHUP your ASS" they are on the offense. Getting your Ass Whipped means being on the receiving end of Whup Ass.

As long as I can remember it is definitely a street thing. Here's another thought.

TM had a working cell phone in his hand and could have easily dialed the cops and said, "There is a suspicious cracka' following me - please come to such an such location NOW". But TM didn't do that did he? Why did he not dial the cops and ask for assistance? He could easily have kept running from Z and dialed the cops while in motion.......easy enough to do, right? He was a literal heart beat from his father's house so why didn't he yell out for help?

Forget the cops, all TM had to do was keep putting one foot in front of the other and yell for help. He was a literal stone's throw from his daddy's house. Or, circle around and lose GZ; it wasn't like he had tail lights from a Mercedes strapped to his ass guiding GZ like landing lights. Losing the cracka at night should have been easy easy.
