What if your neighbors had suffered home robbers/invasions by persons of one specific race? Do you not think that they might be on the look out for suspicious people casing their homes? Z knew that there had been home robberies by persons of a certain race in his neighborhood. Why wouldn't he be on the look out? Oh, I almost forgot, no one is supposed to 'profile'.

How about something known as 'patterns and practice'??? Every time I turn on the news in my area and they report robberies, murders or rapes I don't even have to guess the race of the perpetrator. 8 out of 10 are committed by one race and one race only. Oh, I must be a racist to track such things......

Everybody profiles. Any cop who doesn't know how to properly profile is putting himself at an unnecessary disadvantage. The problem comes when people act on the conclusions drawn from profiling a suspect. I have no problem with Zimmerman taking note of a person meeting the physical description of suspected local gang members. Having armed himself, though, he should have taken precautions to avoid a confrontation. He didn't do that.

I totally agree, Z getting out of his truck to follow TM and/or obtain an address was mistake number one. TM had not broken into any houses, either. Now, if Z had seen TM breaking into a house, that would be a different story. Even then, his job would be to report it to 911 and then leave the area. I mean, those neighbors didn't come out to assist him when he was getting his face pounded so why should he try and stop a home invasion? You don't lift a finger to help me when I'm getting my brains bashed into the concrete, well, the door swings both ways. Dialing 911 to report 'there is a commotion outside' doesn't qualify as help.

Take away the skin color of those involved- or reverse them. Are the actions the same by those two?

When the perpetrators are promptly charged and arrested? I don't know. They might hold press conferences to express their intent to follow the case to make sure it doesn't fall through the cracks. If the attack was by the Klan or other organized group, then I would expect Al to be front and center. Beyond that, I don't think they would do much. I don't see Jesse on the tube often. I had the impression that he was scaling back.

You've written the mild response- which is not what JJ and AS do. They are the extreme and they could care less if the perps were arrested and charged they would be calling for marches and stirring the pot big time- and you know it. Those two are despicable racists out for personal gain at the expense of society.

Sometimes a crime may appear to languish for years before a suspect is charged. Sometimes it maybe a racial bias. Sometimes it is not.

How we determine the degree to which racial interests weigh into a charge being filed has a lot to do with the racial perspective we bring to the table.
