The car is a 2.0 liter V12 1950 Ferrari 166MM Barchetta. I happened to be there at the end of the show and he started it up and drove away. I had asked him earlier if he drove it much on the street, saying that I could imagine he wouldn't take it out in public much, particularly as it has approximately no bumpers. He said, no, he goes out and about all the time. Cool car.
this is the car i thought had the 3.o litre v12, the first one in america was owned by Tommy lee--not the rocker , an earlier spoiled rich kid in LA, it sat around in a display window on SM blvd for quite a while.

It has direct injection, Active Fuel Management, and continuously variable valve timing.

As a point of comparison, the LT1 engine is now 40 pounds lighter than "a competitor's twin-turbo 4.4-liter, DOHC V-8 with similar output," according to Chevrolet's press release. We'll give you a hint; the mystery competitor is German and has a three-letter name, with the first a `B' and the last a `W.' The lighter engine is nestled into a Corvette platform featuring a longer wheelbase and, as a result, the C7 Corvette has a "near perfect" 50/50 weight balance front and rear.

Vettes have had 50/50 weight distribution since the Fourth gen cars beginning in MY84. Makes them very forgiving. I just sold my '88 Friday. I've had it 19 years and didn't dread seeing it go. It was a hoot to drive, but was a clunky rattle trap. My SLK is not as fast in a straight line, but every bit as fun to drive on my beaten path and is solid like a Mercedes. Wait a minute... it IS a Mercedes.

Your list of advantages of the new gen Chev OHV's is good, although the last sentence is not features specific to OHV, but it is still handicapped compared to the potential of an advanced valve and cam arrangement. One neat feature about it that you didn't mention:

You can change cams by simply releasing valve spring tension which allows the lifters to raise out of the way. Great for someone experimenting with different cam grinds. That feature still doesn't make it as easier than changing cams in an OHC engine since you have to get the radiator, condensor, grill, etc. out of the way.

The Fangio link made that the best million dollars ever invested. I bet at a good auction a collector would pay more than $1.5 for it...

Could be, it's been a while. I recall the Enzo character, definitely supposed to be him. I saw it again several years back and discovered something I hadn't known when I first saw it in the late 60s, at about 16 years of age. The owner of the Japaneses team, I forget if they called it the Honda team - probably did - anyway the part was played by Toshiro Mifune of Kurosawa movie fame. I had no idea who he was when I was 16.

I bet you're right. Fangio is gold in racing history. I asked him why the car sat idle for some 40 - 50 years, he said it was a broken leaf spring (?!). The late owner's kids knew what they had, no steal was available on this one.

Could well be. Who woulda thought, apparently Berkeley houses a world class Ferrari garage and after buying it the owner had it taken apart completely and reassembled (with all new bushings, etc. no doubt).

Show you how car geeky some people can get, when the guy started it up at the show's close, me and a couple of other guys were marveling at the car and we went behind and stuck our hands down to feel the exhaust!

Felt good. Very smooth.

Dang that's a tough looking car. That's 'Enzo' in the driver's seat all right. I think he was dropping Montand's character's wife or girlfriend off at a race.

They called the Japanese team Yamura. I thought the F car was driven by the driver's Biatchy rich wife. I watch the movie at least once a year. and LeMans twice, whenever I need inspiration before an autocross event!

Yeah, that's right. I think the car in the movie may be a 365 GTC by the vents in the fender. That means its a little bigger v12. The v12's all howl like a F1 car from the days of 12 cylinder engines when you wind them out. Cool!
