I Met a fellow the other day and we were talking about snipers in Vietnam. Is there a list of the men who served as snipers there that I could access?

Google "Carlos Hathcock" and you'll find every sniper list you ever want to read.

One amazing Marine.

At his retirement ceremony, he was given a plaque with a bronzed Marine campaign cover mounted above a brass plate that reads: “There have been many Marines. There have been many marksmen. But there has only been one sniper—Gunnery Sergeant Carlos N. Hathcock. One Shot. One Kill.”

And IIRC, Gunny Hathcock held the record until Chris Kyle came along.

I think it's fair to Gunny to point out that Chris Kyle benefitted greatly from much improved equipment, training and technology. For the most part, the Gunny was using make shift equipment, no way to measure density altitude and lack of other information that today's snipers take for granted.

IIRC, the Gunny's longest kill was with a fifty caliber machine gun that was somehow altered into a long range sniper rifle. One shot, one kill.

I think you're right.

Craig Harrison, a Brit, now holds the record for the longest kill in A'stan. 1.54 miles! Two kills.

Yes, I think you're correct about the distance, but I was talking about the number of kills. Chris Kyle had over 100 IIRC.

To be fair to the Gunny though, he was in the jungle where I expect there would be fewer targets of opportunity than there would be in the wide open spaces of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hathcock went solo a lot so his number of CONFIRMED kills was far less than actuals.

easy to convert an M2 to single shot, there is a delinker on the trigger group that does it. then sandbag the tripod solidly and attach optics.

Army used this methodology in El Salvador quite a bit.

If this is the same Seal I read about He said in His book that He had a very Target Rich environment.
Gunny Hathocock was not in an Urban environment and except for that one incident in His Book where He and is Observer caught a whole Colum of NVA on the Road in Daylight He had crawl around in the Bush and spend days to get a shot at one Target.

I was at the VA Hospital and the Guy I sat next to claimed to be a Marine Sniper in Vietnam. Some of what He said was somewhat like Hathcocks Book.

I know that more than a few People that have been in the Military will BS and inflate what the did in the Service and the story sounded a little too close to some incidents in the Book; but, I am to ignorant on the subject to challenge someone's story.

Carlos Hathcock passed in 1999.
