Good luck!
(I figured you for an older guy. My bad.:o)

So you're saying that I should kiss the interviewer? Sounds weird, but I'll trust your judgement. Should I do it before or after the interview?

Older guys can go to school, too, right? :)

(but I am a youngtimer)

...make sure you don't get kidnapped Jooseppi...

...you didn't happen to "meet" this person the internet did you?

What ever you do don't bend down to pick up the biscuit...

Yeah, I was kind of uneasy with Starbucks too, but now that we've rescheduled, we'll be meeting in a remote swamp so I feel much more comfortable with it now.

BTW, when you "stall," there's no "surreptitiously" to it....per the interviewer's POV.:P Why would you need to do that anyway?

College interview -- the college wants an alumni to size you up as a person to help them in the admissions decision. Since alumni and applicants live all over the place, it often doesn't make sense for both of them to travel to the college -- for example, in this case, I would drive right past the town he lives in on my way to Cambridge and we'd both still have another 30 minutes to go...

Replace "surreptitiously" with "graciously", then. Good point :). Why would I need to stall? Sometimes my mind totally blanks out for a moment and then I have to recover it.

Wow you guys have never heard of a college interview? Interesting.

Sounds more like a meet-n-greet, than a college interview for admittance. Kick back and go have a few beers......shoot some pool with the guy. It's just some guy that went there, no big deal to get uptight about.

Why don't you drive to the campus in Cambridge, and do a real interview for application process with the college, all with a faculty admissions employee - a person that actually works there?

^^^

No, it's an actual interview.

No that is terrible advice. Its a college interview. I did these myself, usually these people work for or are affiliated with admissions, especially at more prestigious institutes.

If you need a guide, gimme a holler. ;)

At least there's not a lot of banjo playing and pig squealing in the woods and swamps in these parts.

What do you guys think I should order? What is the general amount of food/drink that one gets at a coffeehouse interview? I was thinking of getting something to drink but avoiding food so that it doesn't get in the way of talking. I hate coffee and regard tea with suspicion, though I can drink it.

Any other bits of advice?

coffee....nothing too doinky...

First off, since you presumably will be evaluated based on perceived intelligence, it will be to your advantage to learn the difference between alumni, alumna, and alumnus. Many people use the word alumni incorrectly (as you demonstrated above).

alumnus
noun: alumnus; plural noun: alumni
1. a graduate or former student, esp. male, of a particular school, college, or university.

alumna
noun: alumna; plural noun: alumnae
1. a female graduate or former student of a particular school, college, or university.

Good luck in the interview.

this can be over thought by far, but heres some more overthinking. :D

Even though the meeting is rescheduled, id not follow the advice to order something under the radar or nothing at all because it might be judged weird.

You want this guy to remember you, order 4 drinks, each of the most ridiculous things on the menu. If they ask why, say you haven't been to a starbucks, and you aren't missing this opportunity to see what they can do.

Whats more likely if the interview goes well? The guy remembers the 8 nervous prospective students who had a nondescript black coffee or water and a good interview, or the one guy who had 4 silly drinks and a good interview?

Realistically, what you order and if you order should be irrelevant, but if you intend to do anything, do something that will get you remembered in a positive or funny way

Haha, maybe I should ask for a large coffee-sized thing of milk and drink that down. I drink at least a quart-and-a-half a day, so this would accurately reflect me :).
