Going for an interview at Starbucks. What should I order?

I'm going to Starbucks for a college interview this evening, and I've never been to one before, save for getting some hot chocolate at an airport close to midnight. What do you guys think I should order? What is the general amount of food/drink that one gets at a coffeehouse interview? I was thinking of getting something to drink but avoiding food so that it doesn't get in the way of talking. I hate coffee and regard tea with suspicion, though I can drink it.

Any other bits of advice?

I'm not sure I would order anything, you're there to make money, not spend it...;)

I guess showing a familiarity with the menu wouldn't hurt though....
Maybe a double mocha frap made with Organic free-trade Sumatra... shaken, not stirred...:D

This is to meet with an admissions interviewer from a university, not for a job, right?

I'd just order a cup of coffee -- I don't think you're being graded on that part :)

Yeah, my sister suggested that I should string together the largest coffee order I can come up with and get that :D. I guess I hadn't considered the option of not getting anything, although that sounds attractive as I hate appearing spendy on any level.

ah... I misunderstood. I wouldn't order anything unless you really feel like it.
I thought it was an internship or some such.

Meeting at Starbucks for a college interview. Guess they do things differently than when I went to school.

University. I don't think I'm being graded, but I'm partly wondering what the sort of typical etiquette is for this and if there is something horrible out there that I should avoid. I hate coffee, so I don't think it would be good to be sitting there dreading each sip and trying to stifle faces when I do sip :D.

What time is the interview? If it's past normal (5-7) dinner hours, skip the food. Some familiarity with the menu might score a point. IMO, KISS is the way to go----for the beverage and the interview. And no chewing gum!!!!:eek::D:D.

Good luck!
(I figured you for an older guy. My bad.:o)

I like the idea of not getting anything. I may do that.

dynalow 12-17-2013 12:46 PM

If you don't like coffee, by all means I'd skip it. Have a lemonade or a fruit beverage from the cooler. It's no crime to not like coffee.... and don't use double negatives....:D;)

That will certainly show that you are only interested in the meeting, not the refreshments.

Do they serve booze at Starbucks? Maybe you could get the interviewer to order you a cocktail....:D

I think a few in California serve beer and wine, but that's very dependent on state laws.

Whose idea was Starbucks? The interviewer's? Order a cup of black coffee. It'll give you something to hold onto if you're the fidgety type. If not, don't order a thing. Water maybe.

Starbucks coffee sucks so your not missing anything.

Last time I had a meeting at Starbucks I ordered a medium cream only, I don't play with their silly names, and it was like $3+ and tasted burnt. Oh and they don't add cream you have to do that yourself.

Only other place I have to add my own cream is at a truck stop, but the coffee is better and costs $1.

Mostly they are just full of hipsters freeloading off their wifi.

Pull a fifth of blackberry brandy in a paper bag out of your waistband. It's always worked for me. :P

Yeppers -- their nickname is "Charbucks."
