And if you travel that is a wonderful thing.

And old show biz story that is rather well known is that Bob Hope would only dine in what were once called Tea Rooms. The last one of these I was ever in was in Highland Park, Texas and it was the celebration of a woman's novel release. Very formal and high-faluatin and very, very clean.

Hope knew people who died on the road from food poisoning and he did not wish to be one of them. Not every town had a first class eating joint, so he chose Tea Rooms since they were always the cleanest place in town.

This led to rumors that Hope was Gay, but he said he would rather people think what they would about him if the only other option was to wind up dead.

Meanwhile, reality creeps in.

In Oklahoma you can carry a handgun into a place that serves booze as long as that is not the primary source of the joints income. If the place is a Bar that makes most of its' income from liquor sales bringing in a firearm is a Felony.

If you are in a business that sells food and booze and you have a handgun you cannot be served any booze of any kind. If you are caught with a handgun on you and a drink in your hand you will be subject to arrest and charged with a Felony.

Therefore if you are in a place and not able to buy beer or liquor then you are not a customer but just someone either taking up space or, at best, someone to break even on.

Businesses that hope to make a profit have to do what they can to turn that profit and allowing in customers who cannot buy from them is a poor way of doing this.

And probably lackluster, processed meals like every other chain place

Yelp reviews help out a lot when deciding on which non chain based placed to go to.

Realistically, I doubt Mr. Whoranovermyhat has anything to do with the rule. He doesn't own the restaurants.

The more I read Yelp reviews, the more I'm convinced that having professionals write reviews . . . and pretty much anything of expertise, is preferable.

I only ask if the food I get tastes good enough to justify what I paid. I don't expect to get a $50 steak for the price of a McChicken or vice versa. So, for a $20 steak, it has to be so good and if I pay $10, I expect less, etc, etc. I don't care if it is processed or not processed. Do what you want but make it taste good in a blind taste test and I am good. Since I am not a food snob or a foodie, it is only taste for the price. You can serve me a processed meal or non processed but if I don't like it, it doesn't matter to me how you made it. If I want to control how it is prepared, I'll eat at home.

Depends on your taste. All Yelp does is tell you what someone thought of it. I am very finicky when it comes to taste and quite often, someone says it tastes good but I don't like it or vice versa. That kinda makes reviews a crap shoot. All they can tell me is it is clean or not. Taste is subjective

BS -- someone still has to prepare the food. But personally, I'd rather have the mystery -- makes life more interesting, that.

What they can tell you is whether THEY like it or not. They cannot say for sure if YOU will like it or it sucks.

It's supposed to be free country, meaning that Keith is free to leave his customers unprotected in the event of a nut case shooter and people are free to not darken the doors of his establishment. That's the way it works.

I hope that no one, including Keith, is so naive that they think that the sign on the front door will actually prevent a nut case shooter from bringing his shootin' iron with him.

So far I haven't been steered wrong by yelp once yet. I think its a great resource for on the road eating. Went to CA recently and yelped across the state, eating fabulously at places I never would have considered without reading other peoples reviews. The one time I was screwed was asking a local to recommend a place, and it was edible, but just barely, and the ambiance was awful.

Less variables.

When you pay me to eat and test stuff out, I'll be fine with it. I have enough puzzles in life without having to plan for a bad meal and where to go next when this place had food I don't like. Money and time. I prefer to minimize risk. So if I have 3 hours to spend, I could. 1 hour, much tougher.

Yeah.

Berkeley, California declared itself a "Nuclear-free zone".

when I heard that I thought to myself,

Oh gee, when the Russian bombers one day fly over Berkeley, the pilots and bombardiers are going to say,

"Uh oh, we can't drop 'em here, the sign down there says it's a "Nuclear free zone!"

It's like designating the restaurant; a shooting gallery. There's a reason why all the mass murderers have chosen firearm free fire zones to do their thing.

This is like advertising the business as; a shoot 'em up zone, just as Starbucks has done. A very dangerous place to be, IMO.

As a related aside issue.........

Keith's namesake restaurant here has recently gone belly-up and closed.... I can't believe that it's because of any other reason than financial insolvency, as to the reason it did.

From watching a few episodes of that show with the angry English guy in the Ferrari, restaurants tend to be most likely to fail when the food sucks.

Edit: Gordon Ramsey. I knew I'd think of his name after I hit submit.
