Nope.

I'll just keep taking it in the rear from ComCrapt for ~$50 a month.

Now that Comcast is taking over TWC you can look forward to more of that in the near future. Even if tethering was slower than cable (its not) I would use it just so I'm not enabling this monopoly. There is little to no competition in US ISP business, that's why Google Fiber exists.

This is why I hate local monopolies -- the local gov essentially protecting an industry from competition.

Let them fight it out.

Who's your cell service with? Does your plan include unlimited air-time to allow unlimited Internet surfing/tethering?

I still have an unlimited talk, text and data plan from AT&T, "grandfathered" from 2009.

T-Mobile still sells unlimited everything plans now, no contract and you can bring your own unlocked phone if you want. In some cases they'll pay your termination fee at att vz sprint etc.

Agreed with you on that -- T-mo is the best out of the big four US carriers. Hopefully, the DoJ will c**kblock their merger with Sprint, which is the biggest bag of fail out of the four.

Waiting for 4G. Maybe it will come with the completion of the highway project three miles over. For now the only reliable connections are through Verizon and ATT.

City dwellers act like coverage is a given. If you aren't breathing mostly exhaust fumes, coverage is not a given.

The fact remains that tethering off my phone is faster, cheaper and more reliable than TWC even with my outdated phone.
Comcast here in Balamer, same deal. Best I can get is 1~2MBPS down, maybe 128k up, at around $80/month.

Tmob here, which is the best service(in the city) but it still goes down fairly regularly.

I can't wait to move (soooooooon)

Where exactly are you located?

What do you youngsters think about Virgin? $35 / month unlimited web/text/minutes, NO CONTRACT, sounds powerful to me.

Anyone running WiFi on Virgin?

I had VM before Tmo. You can tether with VM but its extremely slow and coverage is spotty. I wouldn't rely on it as my main internet connection. It was so slow that you would have a hard time using up a GB in a month. Maybe things have improved from a year ago. VM runs on Sprint's network.

T-Mobile sells a $30/month no contract plan. 100min/5gb or 1500min/30mb. Its sort of hidden on their website but its there.

Dang, I tether with T Mobile and I wish I had that kind of speed. I get right around 1 Mb for download and quite a bit less for upload.

Is it your phone or the connection that gives you the speed? Probably a silly question - hard to imagine the phone could be it.

I'm not really sure. My friend who also has Tmo and and IPhone is consistently slower than my nexus4 but not that slow. I have used it in Berkeley and Oakland and the speed seemed descent but I can't tell you exact numbers. Its important to have full bars for descent speed. With 2 or 3 bars it can drop under 10Mbps. I know people with nexus5 LTE phone on Tmo are getter 30Mbps+ down and 10+ Mbps upload.
