=Ugh, Fram.

I've had vehicles that normally don't drink coolant gulp down 1-2L in the summer. Just my $.02

Fram does not enjoy a good reputation for oil filters.

Another data point: Engine had no blowby at all when I bought it 4k miles ago. Just started it. Steady stream of white smoke out the oil fill hole.

How good is the truck?

Coolant in the oil eats bearings fast, which is a bad idea on a new motor let alone an aged one with a lot of time on it.

How much are rebuilds? If the truck is good I'd be hunting for crate engines right now, or a good diesel shop to get it rebuilt.

Don't run it if you think you might be able to just yank the heads and do a HG.

Or as said above if you want another truck play some pass the turd.

Truck is nice. 107k miles. Best option for used is generally considered a military Humvee take out from a guy named Ted. I'm not going to be running it until the Blackstone report comes back. Only started it today for testing purposes. Not really interested in passing the turd along to someone else.

Ran across this on the 6.5 forum. If it's correct, it's likely a cracked block:

"My experience with these engines is if the rad hose is rock hard upon cold start up you have a bad head gasket or cracked head. If the rad hose is soft, 99% of the time it is a cracked block, usually down in the lower end by the main journals running up one of the cylinders into the water jacket. Just my .02 cents good luck."

Years ago, I knew an auto mechanic that had been to Mercedes training in Stuttgart, Germany. He said the school taught that during WWII, the German U-Boat program gave birth to diesel engine designs that were nearly indestructible. He said that they developed a chemical bath they used to cure/transform diesel engine blocks which made them very durable, da** near bullet proof and nearly indestructible. A process Mercedes Benz continues to use to this day.........

Good for you! Passing along something like this without full disclosure to someone, anyone else is a rotten and sleazy thing to do.

i have had 6.2 and 6.5 for about 20 yrs.still have 2 of em.but of all my engines i have had i have yet to even pull a valve cover off so can't really give any idea, but the later 97-99 had block cracking issues.but i see you have the good one to have as in 93 they were mechanical pumps and not the troublesome drive by wire pmd engine.didn't see where your from but here in farm country the 94 up engines are super hard to find.but beings you have a 93 you can use any 6.5 just need to change the pump if its newer.my 92 with an aspirated 6.5 is pushing 600k miles.

Yes, I bought the 93 for just that reason--they are mechanical and have a reputation for not cracking the blocks.
