some good points, I'llt ry to clarify as I was completely out of my mind before from shock.
ok. Heres the deal. The water is from runoff from a house around the corner. There is usually water there, which is why I slowed to 10 mph below the speed limit of 35mph, especially since it is a blind turn, and I know it well enough to know that cars have spun there before causing major accidents. Ins co agrees with me on this. my street is notorious for about 1000 + Accidents a year due to driver mishaps, and or natural hazards. From what I gathered from the witness, I slowed down for the turn which I had every right to do, the other car came at speed behind probably 40 mph or more, saw me slowing down for the turn, he hit his brakes and started to lose control, nudging me and casuing me to spin. When all was said and done, I was in the curb and he was up against the rear of my car with the drivers side of his car. had there not been mud and water with some oil floating on top, it would have been a minor nudge we would have shaken off and gone our seperate ways. when getting out of our vehicles both me and my passenger, and the other driver could feel how slippery the ground was. After the accident, several cars, including a new bmw 7 series and G-wagen both came around the turn and almost lost it themselves. The road was muddy, oily, and wet. not a good combo for near any car. Cars going up the street the opposite direction were also losing traction going around this turn uphill. The reason I wanted to file the police report was so the police would at least put up some flares, to try to slow traffic down. but like I said they just couldn't be bothered, and this was after 4 phone calls by me, and 30 minutes before one even showed up. I have nothing against the police, but when lives could be at stake and they could care less, that bothers me. I myself have always been treated fairly by the police when and if I have ever been pulled over or had to deal with them. I have let the police use my driveway to monitor the park across the street on several occasions during stakeouts of supposed drug dealers across the street. I have always been courteous and all. The problem is that some things are just more important than a fender bender, like a call for help or a real emergency, but I still think they could have taken a minute or two to set up some flares to slow traffic down. The other driver and myself almost saw our cars get hit seevral times after the accdent from cars coming around the turn, slamming their brakes and sliding towards our cars. they were lucky enough to have been able to get out of the way in time. My biggest problem that I have right now is the fact I have not been able to sleep more than 12 hours since friday night. I have bad neck, back and shoulder pains, that have kept me awake and not allowed me to sleep or get comfortable. In fact I can't even sit in a car or chair for more than 15 minutes without getting uncomfortable. That is my main concern, my health. I have a permanent screwed up back from an accident I had over 10 years ago, and it was feeling very good. now It feels worse than it ever did. and I can feel my muscles pulsating all over the show. Really not fun at all. Everything will work out, so I feel I should end up being all taken care of, as well as the car. Now if I can convince the ins co to let me order the parts I need, I'll be able to do all my upgrades. IT does help that my father is friends with the adjuster as he is working on an immigration case for the adjusters friend, and the adjuster should have a check ready for me by monday or so. I will keep you all posted. And believe me when I say I do not mind criticism at all, as long as it isn't severely harsh. Accidents suck, and I feel bad for the guy that hit me, but I also have to wonder what he was doing ina rental in the first place. I can only assume his car was in the shop for another accident he had. I have been in two car accidents my whole life. both of which were others hitting me. this makes 3, in 12 years of driving. thats a pretty good ratio if you ask me all things considered. Hell my 20 yr old brother has been in several accidents before he was 18, my older brother has also been in about 10 or more accidents in 14 years of driving. and in 50 years of drivign my father has been in maybe 40 accidents or so. With him I'm never surprised. he was in 3 accidents in one week. he got rear ended, he rear ended someone, and he got rear ended again. two of his accidents happened in one day!!! and in those accidents the police filed reports and all and even gave him a speeding ticket, which he got dismissed as he was in stop and go traffic, and there was no way he could have been speeding in the traffic he was in. But all in all, worst case scenario is I'm out my deductible. but my ins co feels that the other drivers ins will be paying out and I will be taken care of and No money out of my pocket. Man what a hellish last 2 weeks I have had. My computer crashed and I lost everything, which really bites but I am not that upset about it. I have backups of most of the stuff anyway... My water heater broke and flooded my basement, and well you know what happned to my car. Alon

Sorry Richie,
I don't mean to stereotype, but that has been my experience with the local cops here, and elsewhere. ![]() Admittedly, the police dept. here in Atlanta is understaffed, underpaid, underequipped, and has suffered from internal corruption, local government corruption, and morale is very low. I'm sure that's the case in many other places too. But that doesn't excuse some of the blatantly unacceptable behavior I've seen. Ashman, I'm glad it's looking good with your insurance situation. ![]() That's unfortunate that your street is so unsafe...Is there an alternate route you can take? Might be worth a little extra distance to avoid that area.... I hope your back/neck problems aren't too serious! I can relate to that as well! (Scoliosis) ![]() Keep us posted. Best of luck, Mike

Alon and Mike,
I didn't take it the wrong way. Trust me, if I can deal with my family throwing barbs at me... Everything is cool. You're right, it only takes the actions of a few idiots to make it that much harder for the good ones to do their jobs right and be appreciated. And even with me being Po Po, I still have to deal with the ones that are idiots when I'm not working and even when I am working. As long as you're alright Alon that's the most important thing. By the way, I might be looking to leave the NYPD(depends on this new contract, since we haven't had one in two years). What's the pay in ATL., and Beverly Hills for police?

I don't know specifically, but you might be able to negotiate something good, because I know they are very understaffed right now, and are trying to reform the workings and reputation of the dept.
Either way, Atlanta is a great town to live in! Probably a slightly safer place than NYC for a cop on the street, as well! ![]() ![]() Mike

Quote:
I lost count of the number of times that officers have openly attempted to get me to "get an attitude" for whatever reason that they only know. The worst is the Aurora Police Department in Aurora Colorado. The Ohio highway patrol is next, with California Highway patrol following immediately after. I've also encountered officers unfit for their uniforms in Denver, Arvada, Grahm TX, Dallas TX, and most recently Ft. Worth TX. Now, I am an individual that if I'm being stopped and I've done something wrong, I give the police nothing but respect. I will receive an officer cautiously if I think that the stop is suspect. I NEVER give an officer any grief, unless THEY initiate it. |

I agree. And yes, we have the same problem of officers who slightly out grew their uniforms and don't know how to treat people also.
Seriously though, I'm a firm believer that if you treat the public as you yourself, or a family member would like to be treated it makes your job awhole lot easier and you enjoy it more. Just try to think of each individual as a potential relative(one you like of course), but on the other hand be ready to deal with the occassional jackass who's will hurt you at the right opportunity. It's much easier to start off nice and become a prick if needbe than to start off as an idiot then try to become nice, it won't work. True alot of *******s get this attitude that they're the law and what they say goes but, you know the saying, if you where and ******* before you became a cop, all you are now is an ******* with a gun and a shield after you become a cop. It amazes me the treatment we receives after Sept. 11th. My partner and I made a bet on how long it would take for someone to ruin it by being a idiot. I must say so far we still get treated pretty good but you can see the change coming slowly but surely. Alon and Mike, Supercharged Suburbans, huh. All year long warm weather. Sounds nice. I get to ride around in a big white and blue van, which I may add, the air conditioner sucks in the summer and with all the gear we wear is uncomfortable in the winter. I can dream though.

Alon -
Been out of touch and just now saw your post. Sounds like it's going to work out alright (even though that doesn't help the pain of seeing your baby hurt). You haven't mentioned how you're doing. Any residual problems to the old bod' from the accident? Hope not.

I begin physical therapy next week. My doctor has found multiple spasms of the back, neck and shoulder.
Looks Like I wont be able to play in the golf tournament I was going to be playing in on monday. We shall see though. I'm going into my physical therapist tomorrow and on sunday to see if they can't help enough to let me play. At least I am able to get comfortable enough to sleep for more than an hour at a time now. I finally was able to sleep for a few hours last night without having to get up and stretch and all. The jacuzzi really helps though. I find if I take one for 30 minutes befor eI go to bed, I am looser and able to sleep more. Alon

Hang in there, I spent the last two years dealing with back problems (including surgery last summer) so I know how down you can get from constant pain.
Update us on what you plan to do with the front end. My spoiler is cracked (small one when I bought it has finally turned into a big one) and I'm looking at my options as well. I'll let you know what I'm looking at too.

First plan is to get the money from insurance. Then I will know what I can and can't do.
IF There is enough, I'll go with an AMG Replica bodykit, bilstein sport shocks to compliment the lowering springs I already have, sportline or 500e swaybars if I can squeeze it in. Sportline bushings if I can squeeze those in too, and 17" Wheels and tires. Other than that, I'll behaving the whole car wet color sanded and buffed, and the grill surround color matched. I'll also be gettign the wiper panels without the wiper cutouts, and remove the wipers for my sooner or later upgrade to euro headlights. When all is said and done, my car should look just how I want it. What is interesting is I went to a bodyshop notorious for ridiculously high quotes, but my insurance adjuster's quote so far is much higher than that. So if all works out, I should hopefully end up with $5000 to fix the car. I'm going to try to arrange for me to be able to buy the parts too, as I would love to use my resources like fastlane, Autowerks express for the sport shocks and some of the other places for the things you just can't find here. Hopefully my car should end up looking like a decked out 300CE, which is what I want. The look, but maybe just not all the punch hehe. The engine upgrades come later when its rebuild time... ![]() I just wonder if after they fix the suspension and all, there wont be any other problems. a jolt like that could have possibly damaged motor or tranny mounts, not likely but its possible, and or the drive shaft could have pushed against the differential or something who knows. All I know is I want my baby back. At least I get $50 a day for a rental for 20 days maximum, but luckily my father has lent me his rolls to use. I can't argue with that, its nicer than any rental I could get, and That means I get an extra $1000 to spend on my car. Plus I don't have a problem with driving it around, it really does drive like a million bucks. Alon

Alon, sorry to read
about your 'accicdent'! Bent car and body is not good. But the car can be fixed, that's good news. Now as long as your bodt can, that would be good too!
Have not been reading as I should be, busy with my pool renovation. If interested, click here: http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/FibrTec.html Look forward to seeing pics as the car is 'rebirthed'. |

Who are you looking at for the AMG replica kit? I'm still trying to decide aftermarket spoiler or OEM. Not a lot of options to look at here in Atlanta.

Well I've decided to go with the Erebuni kit that is the SL style. Apart from warnings I have heard, my bodyshop guy is a whiz and can make it work if it isn't 100% a good fit, he can make it fit right.
I like the clean lines of the SL style kit. I wont be doing the Sl style hood or that tail, just the bumpers and side skirts. on a black car, with some other mod sI plan on doing to the front to make it even racier, it should look very good. I'll keep you all posted on the outcome. I think we need mroe first hand experience witht he erebuni kits, and I am willing to take that plunge. Alon
