Not sure. Last I heard it was about 1000 since take you have to remove the water pump.

Having built a NA 383 that makes 410 RWHP, it isn't cheap. Replaced engine with better cam and AFR heads, intake change to HSR and a few other misc stuff. 700R4 trans rebuilt and now the rear end shredded so switched to a rebuilt D44 instead of the D36.
I thought that he specifically said that he doesn't really care about a 0-60 in the threes...

He WON'T come anywhere near it. Not even sure why he wants a C4 since they are old a often not kept in top shape and would cost time and money to get it to shape. If he isn't into speed and trying to find a cheaper platform for it, I guess I am not sure why someone would part with 10K for a low mileage car that they aren't going to really push. Stock the thing isn't really that good and you can get probably something better. When he doesn't have much mod money to spare, that old of a car can become a PITA. Suspension would have dried up and bushings will have to be replaced, dog bones will be a little harder and there is a lot of other crap that can go wrong. Unless you have some sentimental reasons, I am not sure it is worth the trouble. Plenty of GM stores won't understand how it works when there are problems, parts except for the 700R4 or L98 or LT1 are easy but the rest of the stuff you might have to go on Ebay to find it. I know I did because of the usual words the dealer uses. NLA or Obsolete. Even the wiper blades are not available at Wal*Mart or any auto parts stores because they won't clear the hood.

I remember seeing a new '86 Corvette convertible in the showroom of our local Chevy dealer - black with red interior. Very sharp car!

I don't understand why you feel the need to dump on this fellow's parade. He asked specific questions and you go way off on a dumping tangent. Give him a break all ready!

Perhaps you are right.

To the OP: Great idea. You'll enjoy many happy hours of motoring behind this beast. Easy payment, low miles, easy repairs if any, make your hair grow, teeth whiter.

I like C4s because they are cheap and fun. Handle well and as many as were made, pretty easy to get used parts for and since it's a Chevy, go fast is not much work...

92 was the first year of the LT1. Give them a little time to sort it out first before buying it. Also, after a certain year, maybe 95, to reprogram it, you need to take out the ECM? Not quite sure. I know my 91 is done via removal of the EPROM. Also 90-91 becomes harder to get a scanner for and TTS Datamaster is better than others as far as usability goes. I went to Autozone and bought their top of the line scanner and could not get it to work. Tech support said it was a Vette and something was slightly different. Datamaster and TunerPro RT was tried. TunerPro took a little work and they had to rewrite the files because it was a Vette and didn't respond as well to it.

When I bought my Vette in 04, IIRC, I went all the way to NY to get it. All those around here had been butchered or in such poor shape, it wasn't worth the time. Problem is the PO is usually a clown that wants to look good but doesn't spend much in maintenance. When it is no longer usable, he sells it off. Quite a few MILs were "fixed" by pulling the bulb. My point is that a C4 isn't quite a turnkey operation and I personally hate the used market for parts but have no choice many times.

When the parts guy saw me, first thing he said was "OBSOLETE. Now what were you looking for?". Why? 3 out of 5 times it was.
