Why not just get a Internet access and subscribe to Netflix? Then if you get HULU plus or get Amazon prime, you get free tv too. My son and his GF have it.

I just use the Internet Cafe down the street.

so my internet and phone only bill is now just $75/month. that is down from about $135.

so even with paying the occasional $3 to rent a movie from amazon or youtube, I am still ahead.

so i am a happy camper. the thing that irritated me was the idea that I was a captive customer and HAD to pay for tv AND watch the commercials. if i was already paying for it, why do i still need to watch the commercials?

with an antenna, i don't feel like a chump anymore when the stupid ads come on because I get the signal for free now. i guess i am funny like that.

We started watching Perry Mason Season 1 this week...really a trippy show. Mason's driving a black '57 Ford retractable hardtop and Paul Drake has a Tbird.

Good stuff!
First I heard of Chromecast, thanks. Are you streaming over the cell network or over local Wifi?

Cost for streaming the cell network would be prohibitive. We are running a cable modem to provide Internet access, the router talks to all our devices and the Chromecast too.

We recently removed our cable service also, and just stream using Amazon and Roku. For local channels we have digital antenna.

A regular antenna gets digital just fine. Is this a real thing or a marketing gimick?

For it to work well, you need UHF and VHF capability.

I can't speak to what he has, but the Mohu Leaf amplified is pretty damn good.
