Touche.

I don't have a good track record at keeping cars long term but I also have wanted to get back in a truck since I sold my Ranger about 6 years ago. Assuming I keep the wagon I'll have both it and the 240D to keep me entertained with repairs and I won't have to depend on one to get into the office. My kids are also getting to the age where they have all kinds of activities so no more time to tinker on a 30 year old daily driver.

He'll be happy with the acceleration. Car and Driver tested a 2015 Supercrew 3.5 and 0-60 was 5.6 seconds. That's early '90's Corvette territory!

nice purchase,

as with any GDI engine, this will also suffer from valve carboning up, a good known remedy is to gun it hard a few times every week to keep everything clean.

good thing is that they can run 87 gas because the spray down does cool the intake charge - the problem comes up when you get dodgy gas.

re: I have fought/repaired mitsubishi GDI engines in the 90s

Good buy! We got parts in them there turbos...you should have seen the parts counter guy face when I strolled in the Ford dealer and asked to buy 2 eco boost turbos outright.. Guy looked at me like I had turds on my head. He said your cars under warranty. Haha we needed em for r&d. Turbo tech Llc is our name.

I looked at the 3.5 Ecoboost as well but the dealer that was willing to deal on the price only had the higher trims in the 3.5 which had way more options than I wanted. I honestly couldn't tell the difference in the acceleration between the two and I'm not towing any huge trailers. Only the occasional W123 or W124 parts car

The 2.7 has been turning in better acceleration #s than the 3.5 I believe. You should be able to tow anything you want. If you watch YouTube search for Ike gauntlet towing. The cast are a bit goofy but it is cool to see how the small turbo fords crush the big v-8s and diesels towing up that long steep grade of freeway.

Love your truck...I want one real bad but just a little to pricey for me. Enjoy it

I went GMC personally, tried and true 5.3 V8. 2015 Sierra Crew 4x4 SLT. I have my doubts about the 2.7 longevity, but who knows. Ford can't turbocharge things without blowing head gaskets for some reason. Always a crap shoot on whether a particular engine model will hold up.

Tyler funny you mention GM and longevity...we have a 2000 gmc 1500 with 4.8 v8 has over 400k tranny has been rebuilt once. We have a 2001 Chevy 1500 with the dog slow 4.3 v6 but fuel economy King has around 330k I drive a 2003 Chevy 2500 with 6.0 and it has 310k with a rebuilt transmission. I pull loads all over the southeast with that truck. Set the cruise on 80 pulling a 4000 lb trailer loaded with equipment no sweat . I love that truck. The driver seat so worn out I stuff and entire pillow in the seat bottom because all the foam had worn down by the big fella that drove it before me. They all have been awesome trucks. They are all regular cab, long beds in white. Work trucks. Love em

I was a bit worried about that too but the amount of boost seems reasonable and the block is made from the same material the Power Stroke Diesel engines are so if it can handle Diesel compression I'm sure it can handle gas levels of compression and boost. I also drove the Chevy and while it was nice I preferred the look and feel of the Ford. Depending on how things go in the first 5-10k miles I may still spring for the extended warranty thru Ford if it seems like it could be needed.

Who cares if they hold up, but an extended warranty and by 125k or so when its up get a new truck.

Ram would have sold me a life time bumper to bumper warranty for $2400 but I don't plan on keeping it long enough to pay off, plus my truck doesn't have a lot of options.

Now if it was a Laramie with the air suspension sign me up!

Leasing is the way to go with these, I could lease a higher option Ram for $150 a month less than what I am paying. Chevy's are super cheap you can lease a Silverado for $2XX a month. Ford IDK.
