Yeah, it makes its power at higher RPM and it really doesn’t hurt it to spin it up some as long as it’s properly maintained.

My $0.02

Another indestructible, but thirsty thirsty motor.

The 4.0s are great even if they havent been maintained well. That engine is in postal FFVs.

I disagree, if the oil hasnt been changed regularly it will clog the tensioner(s) and eat the chain guides. Had 2 like that.

Thumbs up Keep It Coming !

I love learning all this stuff, my knowledge halts decades ago....

I've seen quite a few with 300,000 & 400,000 + miles on the original 4 cylinder engine still running .

I always tell my Customers : oil is the cheap Mechanic .

i was thinking of the 4.0 OHV, not the SOHC.

If i recall the Rangers got the OHV into the 2000s while the explorers got the SOHC starting in 97? 96? Looking at that ad again, that 97 actually has the 3.0 vulcan V6, instead of the cologne OHV i assumed. Either way too early on the ranger for the SOHC

World of difference between the longevity of both those motors. I also has chain guide issues on an explorer.

Post Door Interchange ?

I got a letter from the other guy's insurance co. to - day, they say both "we don't necessarily accept liability yet" and "if we decide to pay to have it fixed, use our contract shop for easy drive in / drive out you never see the check service " so maybe things will go in my favor .

What I need to know now is : what year spread on the doors and front fenders ? .

I'm already looking at good used same color doors in junkyards, cheap @ $65

Good call, I didn't realize the 4.0 was still the OHV units in the rangers -- those indeed are wonderful engines and very stout. I always assumed the SOHC was brought to the rangers amd explorers at roughly the same time

Glad to hear Nate, junkyards should be full of ranger parts. Consider doing a full total and insurance buyback as well, if offered. You can likely make out ahead considering the abundance of used and cheap parts for the ranger. If it is a work truck more than anything else, the R title won't matter.

The rebuild title means less and less as the vehicle ages.

That's it .

I never have collision coverage because after two ~ three years the premium would have already bought another rig .

I don't drive the title and I know this is a solid rig ~ not hit on either end nor the corners, it drives like a new truck so I'll do whatever I can to keep it and get it fixed and re sprayed .

FWIW, I already took it to my insurance co's contract shop for the initial estimate and they appear to do better works than most I see so if they'll do it they may well get the job .

It's raining and blowing, I got tired of rain water and leaves coming in the sprung door so it's parked for now, the old 'Benz 240D is doing yeoman duty again for now .

Thumbs up

I hope so, I'm going to drop the other insurance co's letter off to my agent to - day after I run errands .

We'll see .

With a little luck I may end up with a nice low mileage work truck that's got a shiny red paint job on it.....

I sure hope you do Nate. I hate to throw ice water on your hopes, but the body shops are so crazy expensive these days I think it will total before they do that.

The good news though, is that these trucks are plentiful and a fair settlement should give you enough to buy a good example although the search might be lengthy.

Best of luck with it. Surely something good will happen instead of another kick in the teeth.

Tom is right in that you are on the right track.
