Supposedly to be common all over North America in not too long a time frame. Nursing home in Ontario. One hundred and twenty seven residents are testing positive out of a hundred and twenty nine total population. All 84 workers test positive as well. They suspected it was the new mutated virus and testing today proved it in all cases. Gives some urgency to getting the vaccine. At least in my mind. It has just reported yesterday that it also kills easier. As well as spreads easier was already known. In our province of Nova Scotia. With the first virus we eventually found we could let a few cases in and kill them. After the time we killed off the first thousand community spread cases. Now we cannot let any cases in. There has never been a case in our area of the province. So everything is pretty normal otherwise. Our reasonable fear is a mutation may arrive that is very resistant to the vaccine. Most virus tends to reduce the impact when it mutates. This virus seems to increase capabilities instead with two mutated examples so far. I do not know why the situation exists in most of North America. Our own provincial officials spent a lot of time explaining why we had to wipe out the virus. Things unfortunatly are going the way they told us they might otherwise. In most other areas of north America. They explained they would remain pro active against the virus. The two of them should get a medal. I suspect they are just too much of an example of what is possible instead. To award any real recognition. It would make others look far too bad.No new cases anywhere in the province today. Economy is functioning well in comparison. All hospital beds are at normal usage rates. Being prisoners in our own province now has to be. For us as a couple it is preferable to the alternative. We have vaccinated all the people in nursing homes. Then stopped doing it. The vaccines where only released on an emergency basis. The want to make sure they have no longer range serious problems. Before releasing them to the general public here. They were not taken to the full approval stage yet by the manufactures. We really do not need the vaccines here currently. We have to really trust these two doctors turned politicians after retirement. Otherwise we would be in a hell of a mess. Where there is an existing virus problem it is only sensible to take the Vaccine. As soon as possible. I had thought there was not much possibility of keeping the the mutated virus forms out of the province. I think we now have a slight chance. They caught the two cases that got off a plane here. They never had a chance to spread it. We never did just ask people to quaranteen. We made a certainty that they did. If a plane came in from an area that had even a trace of the mutated virus. It was constant supervison for the fourteen days. What all of north America should have done. Now it is far too late. These mutated forms of virus are a totally new game. This may turn out to have been the worse ball by far the officials in most areas on north america have dropped. We have watched them do it time and time again. The new president saying 100 million vacinations in 100 days. May be far too little far too late. Perhaps warning the public on what may be underway creates panic. Or the officials just cannot wrap their minds around the possibility. We have proof as of today. This mutated form spreads like wildfire. At least the vaccine is effective against it. Perhaps not quite as much as against the original virus but good enough. I hope I am wrong goes without saying. It has created a certain amount of stress suspecting what I think may be coming. The loss of some friends where we come from especially. Even that it was so easy to have prevented this in comparison. I suggested some time ago my childhood friend consider staying at our cottage awhile. He could have driven down with his family. That window is now closed unfortunatly. They would not let them through our border. Even with supervised quarenteen. They are retired but live in a hot spot. Last edited by barry12345; 01-23-2021 at 10:58 PM. |

Yes, I'd contacted my mayor and asked for the link to where to go .
America's covid-19 problem is simple : greed, avarice and ignorance .

Silly goose, the blood draw for your antibody test. There was a phlebotomist involved, yes?

The idiots are almost totally incompetent.. They could have kept the mutated strains out of north America. North America has some mutated strains that developed here. Just not as serious as the English one and the South African one. |

duh. I wonder what that test is actually good for. The big test draws multiple vials , they need to be quickly centrifuged in the vac vials preloaded with varying secret sauces ... and the plasma is tested for several Immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, IgM) The appearance and quantity of these varies based on timeline ( how their curves peak) from infection and how severe the virus got in you. \ In Each of those Immunoglobulins they look at/for four antigens present: spike glycoprotein 1 (s1) receptor binding domain spike glycoprotein 2 (s2), and nucleoprotein

I give blood fairly regularly (a few times per year), so I've had the Red Cross antibody test three times since this all started last spring. First two were negative for Covid antibodies. The wife got exposed to Covid a few months ago, started having mild fever, so we both got tested. She was positive and I was negative (this is the PCR test to see if you have an active infection, not the antibody test). A few days later, I have fever and other symptoms. Never went back to get tested as it never got worse than flu symptoms for me.
Anyway, gave blood last week and just got the antibody test back - positive. So that removes the urgency for me to get the vaccine, at least for now. Use it on someone more needy. I don't think the Red Cross can use the existing blood donation for convalescent plasma treatment for a Covid patient. As I understand it, that requires a different type of donation process where they draw your blood, extract the plasma and then return the remaining blood cells to your body. Sounds weird, but I'll try it next time I get around to donating. |

looks like whitmiremedical.com/covid-19-testing is the one used at Kroger.
They do not seem to appear on the evaluation page @ https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-emergency-use-authorizations-medical-devices/eua-authorized-serology-test-performance |
