Free Email Accounts

I understand Yahoo offers free email accounts. Do you know of any other free email account offers that are worth the bother?

Are there any drawbacks or advantages to signing up for these free accounts?

Free E-mail accounts are great, although limited in size...HOWEVER, what I cannot stand with free E-mail accounts is the amount of spam mail you receive...

I've been using Hotmail for a couple years now.
Pros:
free
decent spam filters
free

Cons:
sometimes hard to log onto, but not alot
alot of banners/graphics that slow down the load time with dial-up servers.
limited memory alotment

Other than that, I'm happy with it. It does the job I want.

The advantage is that when you change your isp you don't have to try to contact everyone you know and give them a new email address to contact you with....

Actually, that's exactly why I did it in the first place.

You have to set your "junk mail" settings up to get rid of that stuff. All I really ever get is offers to enhance my breast size and mortgage/financing crap.

The free account I use is www.mail.com . Not bad on spam at all, plus you get to pick your @ . com name. They have a whole bunch, like @mad.scientist.com. I'm waiting for @peachparts.com :p

yahoo has the best filtering capabilities. i move specific mail i'm interested in into folders and the last filter i use to sweep everything else into trash. hotmail can't do that - works like a charm...

I hated yahoo I got so much junk with them and still do to this day whenever I log on to check the old email.
Hotmail-Spam is not to bad most of the time but some days it's never ending
Excite- No Spam rarely ever used it since it was my first email account and I knew nobody with email then
Bimmer.Org-No spam at all down side is it's not the greatest set up.
I like hotmail and will stick with it for a long time I'm sure. You also can use windows Messenger (XP) or MSN messenger with it to

One thing I do is have two email accounts. One is my personal account I use for personal corrosponding(family, ect) The other is the one I use for everything else. The "personal" one gets very few hits of spam. The other is swamped, but I don't care about that so much. I just go thru and clean it out couple times a week.

The only reason you get junk, is because you put the address into forms on the web without ticking the 'dont send me offers' boxes, or perhaps they are found from other places. They are not a result of the mail company you are using (except for the once/month or so offers you may get from yahoo/hotmail etc - remember not to tick boxes about your interests or you'll get more).

MAJOR plus for yahoo is, you can access it with POP3. What this means is, you can access it with Outlook or any email program. With hotmail, you HAVE to go through the web page and type your password in every time. you can't forward mail either.

I always click the "don't send..." box, IF there is one. Seldom is. And I know I've never requested breast enhancement info Actually I hardly ever give EITHER e-mail address to anyone except those I care about hearing anything from. I think there's alot of random email generators thingees out there (spiders?) that'll find you no matter what you do. Just as phone solicetors still find my unlisted number.
I've used Outlook for my Hotmail. Works fine.
And I forward stuff all the time.

You can use hotmail with Outlook Express 5.5 and 6 both because it allows the HTTP emails
