Good Luck and remember that GOOD doctors know that they are humans like us and encourage second opinions.

We hope the best for you!

An update, but first...

...a word of thanks for all of your responses, for the advice, for the words of encouragement, for the humor (LeBenz, you cracked me up with your comments, I am still smiling about your references to the pretty nurses...hmmmmmm!).

I saw the neuro today and he was able to give me add'l information. The tumor is about the size of a pea (I never liked those veggies, now I know why!). It's over 2 cm in size, so it will have to be operated. It is encroaching on the right side of the pittuitary gland. the bad part is that it is growing around the right carotid artery, so the surgery is trickier than usual. Plus I have to be concerned that the tumor has not already done some damage to the artery.

The surgery is straightforward. They go in through the nose (so not only will I be paying through the nose, I will actually be cut up through the nose). Heck, I may have some plastic surgery done as part of the surgery, you know, like getting your engine steam cleaned at the same time you get your car detailed! Does anyone know the name of Michael Jackson plastic surgeon? I kinda like the Diana Ross look!

Because of its location, they will probably use radiation post-surgery, to make sure it is all gone. It is a very localized dose of radiation, so I won't lose any hair or suffer any other side effects.

I'll be in the hospital for 3 - 5 days and then I will be home, puttering around, for a couple of weeks. And no Lebenz, I am NOT trying to get out of any trials

I will be going for a CT angiogram, to make sure that all blood vessels are A-OK. Then I will go to the local university hospital (the one WITH the great football team, not the one with the formerly good basketball team, as I had originally planned) for a second opinion regarding the surgery itself, not the diagnosis.

So if all goes well, they will operate sometime in July. I'll keep you all posted.

Again, thank you all for your words of support, advice, humor, encouragement, etc......

Sorry to hear about this whole situation, but good news is you caught it early and was persistant and educated on the issue. Im not sure about your insurance company but get as many 2nd and 3rd opinions as possible.

Keep your sence of humor, sometimes thats what keeps us ticking. I had a bad medical problem a couple years ago and all you can do is be optimistic and keep your sence of humor and you will be fine.

Goodluck to you and keep us posted.

BENZ-LGB,

Wish you all the best. Make sure they don't leave a hemostat inside after they close up (I think you'd notice anyway)!

It's good your getting this fixed. Many men will wait until some problem is too far along and by them it's too late.

If you have a deviated septum you can get that fixed as well.

If the artery is damaged, maybe they can replace it, mush like we do to our cars!

May your surgery and recovery be a speedy one...

I hope everything goes well. I too have had surgery to remove a dangerous problem (see http://my.webmd.com/content/healthwise/37/9231.htm?lastselectedguid={5FE84E90-BC77-4056-A91C-9531713CA348}) and know how dangerous these things can be.

I wish the best for you.
