240D passenger seat removal
I use my 240D as a camper in the summer. With the bottom back seat removed, the front passenger seat will recline completely. It is not as comfortable as I would like, and I am trying to romove the passenger seat altogether, but it seems too involved to make it worthwhile. Is there an easy way to remove the seat leaving the rails in place ?? Then I could fit a piece of plywood to make a flat sleeping surface.

Have you looked at the passenger seat bolts? I think you only have to undo four bolts and the seat and rails come off the floor as a unit, leaving the carpet and a vent.

Yes, take the rails with it and there are only 4 bolts. Slide the seat forward to access the rear bolts. Then back to access the front ones. Once out, you will discover that the floor is not flat. The front is a couple inches higher than the back.
I see this is your first post. Welcome to the board. Over in the Diesel Discussion forum you can find out anything you want to know about the 240D. Your questions don't have to be diesel engine related.

Those are 10 mm fasteners you are looking for too. You will also need to remove the seatbelt fastener located under the plastic cover on the pass rear driveshaft tunnel. You may have a seat belt alarm tied into it too. It is under the seat near the front and just disconnects.
Welcome aboard.

I was thinking about this again last night. The seat is held to the rails by several phillips head screws on each side. At least one of them is inaccessible until you get the rail into the right position so the screw is accessible through a hole in the rail. So if you try to remove the seat from the rails while still in the car you'll get frustrated really fast. Just do the four bolt thing. And Jim, thanks for the reminder about the seat belt.
