Instead of calling the US Postal team "American", they should be called Lance's Team 'cause he's the actual owner and the USPS is only a sponsor. That corny saying "there's no I in TEAM" does not apply to the Tour. Those other 8 riders have only one mission...get Lance across the finish line wearing the yellow jersey. Hah, in this case TEAM is really spelled TIME. :p

FWIW, I'd heartily agree that the best cyclist at the TdeF is American!

lance still in yellow! (but lead is smaller, approx 15")

ullrich still looks strong, and 2 more mtn stages to go,
and a close start last stage trial could be in his favor.

OLN did not show the sun stage, and (CBS?) covered the entire tour thru today in one hour summary show. it sucked.

hemmingway said there were only 3 real sporting endevours: hunting, fishing, and something else, and that everything else was just games.

but... i submitt that the TDF is the greatest sporting event of modern times.

even non runners understand what the significance of a marathon is, and the TDF is basically like running 20 marathons in 30 days. these guys are supreme athletes.

What are people's thoughts about the "revelation" that Lance lost 5 kilos of bodyweight during the time trial a couple of days ago? Is there anyone else out there like me who is slightly suspicioius that Lance and USPS are playing a massive cat and mouse game? I'm watching tonight's OLN coverage and it cerainly looks to me like USPS is letting Team Bianchi do all the work.

a great show of sportsmanship, and

a great show of courage and determination.

Amen, brother. And on the same stage when something similar happened two years ago. I was an hour late to work, but it was worth every freaking minute.

And to change the topic slightly, what about that Kirsten Gum?

Dr. Ken Cooper in his book on aerobics equates one mile of running to six miles of cycling, so a 156 mile (253 km) TdeF stage would be the equivalent of running a marathon.

All things being equal, cycling places less impact stress on the body, allowing the riders to perform the equivalent of a marathon (more or less) every day whereas the mountain stages would absolutely kill a runner!

We have an event up here in Alberta called the Canadian Death Race where runners attempt to finish a 125 km course over 3 mountain summits and one river crossing with 17,000ft of elevation gain. The record is 15 hrs 45 mins.
