Mercedes Sound Systems
Been to some audio stores with a friend a few days ago and looked at many systems.
I would like to know people's opinions on "stock" benz systems in their cars and which model had the best sounding system. So far the best one I heard myself was my freinds 92 400SE's Bose system......the bass was unreal and the vocals were produced amazingly. As far as the 126, I finally got it up to par but nothing compared to that Bose w140 system. And why all of a sudden in 1992 Mercedes put in this amazing system? What made them do that? Complaints from previous years? hmmm interesting.

From 1981 to 1991, the sound sytem of the W126 increased in complexity a heck of a lot more than it increased in sound quality. The 1991 system isn't bad, but no better than what my 1991 Mitsubishi came with. The only difference is that the MB cabin is quieter. The 95 system is big improvement and more than I'll ever need in a sound system... well, I'd like to have an in-dash MP3 player but I might settle for an add on MP3 RF changer. Now where to put it? Our 95 E420's sound system is easily the best out of all the other cars we've owned.
including: 83 300CD, various Toyotas (Crowns, Corollas, Windom, Camry), 92 230E, and 96 E320 (it had a Pioneer headunit and MB speakers), Nissan Cefiro (Infiniti I30/Nissan Maxima). It still isn't quite as good as my friend's Bose in the 99/98 Audi A6 Quattro 2.8 I think the E420's sound system isn't that powerful and once played loud the door speakers start rattling some things in the door pockets. But it's definitely clear and doesn't sound bright or muffled (like most stock stereos) but then again sound quality is subjective..
