Holidays kinda suck sometimes
I just wanted to get this off my chest that when one is single....the time between thanksgiving and new years kinda sucks when you are flying solo.
That's all. Thanks for listening.

I feel ya... I've had a string of bad luck this semester between parents, school, girlfriend (went out with for like 3 days and she cheated on me ), etc. All this happening at once was too much for me, but oh well, life goes on, right?

Holiday celebration is presented so euphorically festive that anything less could put one in a severe depression (hence the increase in suicide attempts during the holidays).
Fortunately, I lived within a few hours from my folks when i was single, so despite my lack of a female companion, I could still enjoy the festivities. The tough part now, is that it's the time of year that one really needs a lot of money available for gifts, travel, etc. Along with that, a lot of end-of-year stuff comes due (taxes, etc.)...but somehow, I manage to survive the holidays...

Having been married for 14 years, it has been a while since I've been single and "alone" during the holidays, but you can still keep busy by spending time with your family and friends.
I believe in God, and that everything happens for a reason. I don't always see what the reason is right away, but it usually reveals itself long after the fact. Sometimes in times like these, like when you are newly single after a long-term relationship, it is a good time to "take stock" of where you're at, and who you are. It might be time to develop a different side to your personality, pursure other interests, meet new people. Who knows? You might be better off this time next year. P.S. I saw the picture you posted of yourself, and beleive me when I say that you are an attractive person, and shouldn't have any trouble at all finding someone to share your time with.

The worst year of my life when when I was 19 on a ship in the N Atlantic during Christmas. I had my shipmates, but it was cold comfort when I was a kid. The later years were easier, guess I knew it was coming and could sort of get myself prepared.
But like Rick said, connections here and elsewhere can help a lot. |

Yes, they can sweetie, but we make it that way or not. When I figured this out, it became my favorite time of year. Now that I have a live-in future ex-girfriend, it's actually not as much fun anymore.
Used to meet LOTS of great people going to church dances, bars, shopping (of all places, eh), met some of my dearest friends around the world this time of year. Some years I had so many "extended families" inviting me to Xmas supper, caroling, screwing with someones recently divorced sister, aunt, etc......, (whoops....., this post'll get yanked for sure now!!), I had to choose who would be blessed by my presence! So, from what little I've read here about you, you would CERTAINLY bless someones presence, but you may need to reach out and take the first step. People NEED to reach out this time of year and you can help them gain a blessing for doing this. Jump in my dear, you will be AMAZED at what happiness and bliss the universe has in store for you. Of course, there were a few years I drank myself into oblivion too???!!?!??!! BTW, we have people from all over visiting all times of year, if you have a need or desire to come out to Colorado, you're MORE than welcome (big house, lots of room, a nice 300D to work on, elk, venison, goose, etc. to eat) Without question, there are TONS of others here with the same sentiment, so pick someone to bless with your presence and go for it! Or..., we'll take up a donation around here and buy you a case of Bombay.

Enough of this nonsense!!!
Yall are falling victum to the commercialization of the season. True happiness doesn't manifest itself in relation to dates on a calendar. I don't love my wife anymore on Valentine's Day than I do any other time of the year. I'm 'Thankful' EVERY day and don't need a Hallmark card to remind me.
Christmas is the date set aside to honor the birth of Christ. Whether you are Christian or not is irrelevant. A lot of people just try to get in on the 'act' to sell more stuff. A true Christian celebrates the birth of Jesus. All the rest of this crap is just designed to empty your wallet. Oh yeah, I think the Jews have something going on this time of year too, but we don't have many of them around here. Don't be offended my Jewish friends, we do our thing, you do yours. So, live life at your own pace. Don't let business dictate whether you are happy or sad. Look in your own heart. If there's a problem there, then don't blame the world. Find your soul. Or maybe your God. Happy Holidays Tha Cap'n |

People running about like chickens with their heads cut off. Trying to buy all sorts of strange temporary enthrallments for their spoiled kids. All the while the poor buggers don't even have a single dime to their name. Their only assets are their plastic debt inducers.
The holidays are the best times to go into debt. Foolish Yups think they can afford the world, yet next year foreclosure on their homes and reposession of the new XJ sedan when they can't fork over the green. Merry Christmas, and happy Hanukah. Peace and Goodwill to all, anyway.

I think I've dated only two women during the holidays, so I know what you mean. But after my last serious venture (relationship), I decided to take some time off and get myself together first before getting back into it. Don't worry about what you don't have during this time but instead think about and be happy about what you do have. I'll bet the list is a lot longer than you think! BTW, I'm still not dating anyone regularly right now and that's okay. I do have a couple nice prospects going on, but that's not in the scope of your thread! : PS Did I hear of a picture? Didn't see one!

I know what you mean Jen. I'm in a similar boat as you, but at least it will all be over in a couple of weeks... and then we can get back to our normal stressed out lives.

Kawansa is a contrived occasion and merely distracts from the Christmas season. Don't know much about Hanuka, or Cinco De Maya either for that matter. Point is, Christmas is a Christian celebration. Take out Christ and you have Xmas. I think it's a shame that it has become an all things to all people occasion based on business, not solely religeon. But I do remember those wonderful mornings after Santa Claus had come, I just always wondered why he left better stuff at some houses and nothing at all at others.
The greatest joy I have of Christmas is hearing a childrens choir sing. That, for me at least is, is what it's all about. |
