Only my 2nd post here but i think the comment below was a little out of order......

Surely an adminstrator could show a little restraint, and not post racist comments, however funny they think it is.

I am glad to read that I am not the only one who found the comment, by a moderator no less, to be offensive.

At the beginning of the Iraq war I made many comments about the behavior of the French government during WWII--how the government basically folded as the German troops marched into Paris. By comparison, the badly outnumbered and outgunned Poles fought bravely against the Germans. And in the Iraq War, the French government turned its back on the US, while Poland's government sent troops to help us out.

At the time, some accused me of being racist. I did not, however, disparage the French people. I did go after the French government. I mentioned how thousands of young, brave American boys fought (and lost hteir lives) to save France's bacon and how disgusting it was that France would not support the US any help in its efforts to oust Saddam--in fact, France actively opposed the US.

Some may think that my comments were racist, but I never attacked the French people, only their gutless then and gutless now, government.

The French didn't turn their backs on the Americans. They just had different agendas.

Lets be brutally honest. Very few wars have been fought by nations unless it is somehow beneficial to them. The Americans intervened during the second world only after the the Pearl Habour incident. Before which, hundreds of thousands of lives had already been lost. True, they provided ordenance and hardware from the start, but they just didn't really fully commit.
Now i'm not saying this is wrong or right but just .....

As far as Iraq was concerned, the French (and i mean the French gov) had their own agenda, as did the Americans/British. Was that agenda oil, money, re-election...dunno. And as much as we like to speculate, we never will.

I also believe you are very naive in assuming that French, British, American, Japanese etc governments would somehow commit to war on moral grounds...There's always an angle - it just depends on which way you look at it!

I'm not quite sure about the Polish turning there backs to anybody:
