Ran into a similar problem, the kick down switch...

Ran into a similar problem, the kick down switch below the gas pedal was stuck on. Removed the carpet that was causing the switch to get stuck and the car started to shift normal again. Good luck John

I did find the wires switched between the engine coolant temperature sensor and the idle control valve. This resolved the auxiliary fans running all the time problem but not the compressor....
