Good point, I did not think of that, however the instructions for o2 sensor say that it will work for shielded and none shielded.

As a test I grounded the o2 plug on the frame and the car rpm's dropped so it's working. So what I will do is cut off the old sensor crimp the new one and preserve the old OEM connection.

As far as the climate control, mine had the exact same thing and it was vacuum...

coil testing procedure

Ignition coil terminal 1 and ground should be between .5-2v
terminal 15 and ground should be 4.5v
