..........use the correct terminology..........you use the jack to raise the trailing arm...........nothing is done to the subframe.

You'll be confusing folks again.......................

There are two part numbers listed. It appears that the 10249 p/n is for the comforts although the title reads "comfort/heavy duty".

The 10220 p/n is definitely heavy duty.

This is confusing. I thought earlier models had trailing arms and newer models control arms.
Do all vehicles have trailing arms and control arms?

All W126's have the same suspension. They all have trailing arms in the back. I think the W124's have control arms but I am not completly sure.

Lots of rubber in the rear end of these cars, one day it will be a lot of fun to change all the bushings.

Right Rear Shock Mount

I may be in trouble!?

My right rear shock mount has 1 bolt with a missing head. The resulting torque has broken the other side's bolt from the trailing arm. I can get the bolt with the missing head out removed (easy out...), but I wonder how to repair / replace the other side? I hessitate replacing the trailing arm, but will do so it that is the best option.

Any help out there today?

IMO: Remove the coil spring, extracting the broken bolts is easier from the top.

Rear Shock

Thank you Mr. Hunter, as always your insight is invaluable.

While the broken bolt will be a project in itself, I am most concerned about the adjacent part of the flange. Any recommendation on how to repair this broken component?

If the welded nut broke off = replace it with a washer and nut.

If the trailing arm is rusted through and cracking = replace the assembly.

1982 right rear trailing arm

Mr. Hunter,

Attached are several photos of my 1982 300 SD. Please ignore the yellow dirt on the trailing arm, it is dirt and not rust!

I ask for your advice on repair (weld) vs replacement.

If I have the shock attachment welded back in place, any advice / experience in material selection?

If I need to replace the trailing arm, please advise what generations of MB had the same trailing arms (this will make my hunting at the local PNP's more efficient).

Respectfully

That trailing arm is not safe to repair = junk = replace it.
