Well here are some of the updates on my 400 SEL 93, since seat and air blower stop working few weeks ago. / I posted couple weeks, and also recently. From the past three weeks, the car is there on the shop waiting for another component element on one of the motors of the passenger seat/ already I was advice that another computer chip could be damage and it will cost me probably another $ 500.00. just the chip./ Most of the people involve with problems here, are talking about cars that are at times twice as older as mine even older and people seem to be and sound like every one is so happy to own those machines. Can this items be posible to go bad? The car has 83.000. Do I have faulty evrything concerning electronics or Mercedes is punish me for treating the car so well?

Sounds like you are having a rough time. I can understand your frustration at having so many problems with a car as young and well cared for as yours. Since my 420SEL is a w126 and not a w140 like SEL I can't give too much insight into your specific problems. All I can say is that you are driving probably the most complex car that Mercedes has ever built. Apparently, only the 600 of the 60s and 70s is more costly to maintain. The more features a car has the more areas there are to develop problems. Most of the problems that I have had with my car are what I call superficial. That is they don't really affect the way the car drives or handles, or how safe it is. Most have been related to the sunroof, door locks, antenna, etc. The reason those of us with older cars love them so much is that rarely is there a problem that affects the real pleasure we get from these cars, that is the driving of them. As Mercedes owners, generally we are perfectionists. We like to keep our cars in better shape than we recieved them.
As for what to do, the first step is to look. Find out what you can get for your car, as is. Then look for other cars you are interested in. Instead of looking for an older car, which many of us on this board enjoy, try looking for a newer car with a warranty (star mark). Sounds like you could use a break from paying for repairs for a while. Either that or live with the minor problems in your car, and fix them as you can. There's no law that says you have to fix your power seat right now (driver's side might be necessary, but passenger side is no big deal). It all up to you. ------------------ Jason Priest 1986 420SEL |

Jason/ Thanks you opinion is apreciated/
You right, we like to have everything in good or excelent working conditions on our cars / Besides Mercedes is Mercedes and doesn't look right when someone ask for something on you car, and you response have to be...yeah, sure, it is a gage that is not working for the past six months, but the car runs like a dream anyway/ That is a no-no on a Mercedes owner/ The good think about all this and at times ironic is the following: today you just no only have to have some money to own a Mercedes, you have to be mechanicaly incline and know what you talking about/ Years ago you were able to get away if you just have money or you were mechanich incline / today the second option is out of question/ Other than changing bulbs and filling few holes with chemicals, you have to have a shop to diagnose everything and spend hours to find out that you have to change a relay that years ago you did have in you garage by the dozens. |
