problems with c230 Kompressor

I bought this car wrecked and I have almost got it completly restored but I am having a few little problems. I can't seem to get the ASR switch to work and I do not know what the other button up there does that looks like a little car and a hook. In addition I am having problems with the temperature controls they seem to be either real hot or real cold. Can you give me any advice to start eliminating some of these problems?
