There is nothing on the label describing the contents. Here is what it says on it:

Thank You Gilly for your advice and patience.

In the following thread post numbers 3 and 4, M.B.DOC and Benzmac say that Loctite 5900 is what the oem stuff is. Are they mistaken? Take a look here:
Timing cover sealant

I believe that MB DOES sell 5900 if you want to buy it from them, this may be one of the part numbers mentioned in the 2 sources you just listed, not 100% sure if any of those are it though, but certainly could be 5900. Bothers me neither post mention that the part number listed is 5900. Seems to me the first time we bought it (we bought it from MB per a bulletin I believe), it was not repackaged as an MB product, it was simply a tube of 5900 with a paper MB part number sticker applied to it, no attempt at hiding what it was. So, after that we just bought 5900 from a local distributor, a little cheaper that way and we got it within an hour or so, so was a win-win situation, cheaper and we didn't have to keep a spare tube around, or maybe just ONE spare we ditched in the shop as a back-up.

Nice job. Thank you for being patient and taking these pictures.
I will keep them for future use, as I am sure many others will.
needless to say I hope this does the job for you and keeps the engine dry...

Nice job. You may well have motivated me to get off my butt & do a similar job, valve stem seals & valve cover gaskets. The manuals should be so well documented.

Then again, if they were, they'd cost hundreds of $. Wait a minute, they already do!!

Oh well,

MB product=5900?

Quote:
The stuff we used in the shop was gen-yoo-wine Loctite 5900, as per MB. I've never seen Loctite 5900 in a MB "wrapper". I would have to examine this stuff to tell you if it is in fact 5900. Can you read the fine print and see if there is anything indicating who made it, and compare what was written a few posts ago in regards to the characteristics of the product and see if the info on the MB-packaged sealant is the same? You can also examine it, it should be a dark charcoal-black color and have an odor which is sort of similar to vinegar. If in doubt at all get the 5900.
Lino, did this smell like vinegar? Color looks right.

just curious.

I just went and squirted some out and it does have a smell of paint or some kind of solvent. The smell isn't too strong and it doesn't seem to smell like vinegar. Sorry, I don't have much experience with these things to compare the smell to something else.

Very great job

Lino,

Great job. My 89 300 ce had the same problem, one drop or two oil leaking around U seal. My friend told me to live with it. I called MB dealer and the service manager told me that was common problem to the older MB. He suggested me to change oil to 20w50. (thicker oil). I did and the leaking stopped.

Lino,
Please don't post any more pics of head gaskets and valve seals. I think everone here knows what they look like, and they take forever to down load.

Peter, you poor soul. You must be using a dial up modem.

It's time to get DSL or a cable modem. You know, get in the fast lane on the information superhighway.
