What is a Service CD? Where to Get?

Over the last couple months as I browsed this forum I saw numerous references to a service CD and my curiosity is piqued. Exactly what is this CD? Is it a factory authorized service manual on CD? Or is it produced by a third party? How valuable is it (if at all)? Does it cover in-depth troubleshooting such as fuel injection and climate control, or just basic remove/reinstall procedures? How does it differ from Haynes/Chilton? Finally, how/where do I get one, and how much does it cost?

I tried using the search function with "CD," "service CD," etc. but keep getting no matches.

Thanks in advance!

The CD is the electronic version of the soft bound paper Chassis Maintenance and Service Manual. The pages were converted to Adobe PDF format and accessed through a menu system. Most contain the engine and chassis sections, but lack the climate control, transmission or electrical system manuals.

New they go for about $150.00 new. http://catalog.peachparts.com/getspecials.epc?cookieID=1CL0O6GWD1DA10BHTV&clientid=mercedesshop&clientid=mercedesshop
They are some what difficult to navigate but very in depth. There are troubleshooting sections scattered about, electrical schematics...- (no transmission data though)

for your 91 300E their may be one for sale on the forum http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=105655

I have heard of pirated copies available on E-bay

Is it worth it. I think so.

P.S. The second CD (set of 2) has electric, climate control & engine manuals
