There's an plastic insert directly behind the door handle that pops out of the plastic trim piece that you have partially out. pry it out with a small flat blade screwdriver. Behind that is a small phillips screw that needs to come out to allow you to slide the trim piece down over the armrest to access the big screw that secures the upper end of the armrest.

The most important thing when removing a panel is to do it slowly and carefully.
I believe shop time is .3 of an hour to do this, but for first timers it could take 45 minutes.

ok so I got the panel off, but now how do I apply power to tell the regulator to put the window UP ?

so I've got purple, blue, brown and green with white stripe coming from the car to the switch receptacle, and just green and black going to the unit.

obviously I can just tap into the green for power, but I dont want to risk the window going DOWN any further....

The body shop traces the wires to the regulator and jumps them. If the regulator goes up, then it is good. If not it is either the regulator or the switch that is bad. You can check switch by switching out switch with one that you know works on a good door. To tell which wire it is, I believe they refer to the wiring diagram. I do not have a manual to your car, but someone on the board should have one. If you do not have a manual on your car, you should be able to get it from mercedesshop.

Take the cover off the plug and remove the green and black wires, with 'tubes', going to the motor. As a precaution, jot down the wire colors and the corresponding numbered connections in the plug, as they tend to pop out suddenly and you won't know which goes back where! Then, from a power source, attach + and - 12V to either raise or lower the window.

Talking

success!!!! yes! thanks to y'all for replying. I hooked up direct + from the battery to the green wire and - to the black, that makes it go up. opposite makes it go down - I wonder if my neighbors saw me dancing a little jig in front of the house after I finally got the window up.

so the motor/regulator isn't the problem, its got to be the wiring somewhere since I've tried known good switches at both center console and door receptacles, oh well,

thats too much snooping, testing, fiddling, and headache for me! looks like that window will be staying up thanks so very much!! the ShopForum is really great!! I post at many other forums and sometimes its hard to get such great help from people
