Possibly a dumb question, but what the heck is supposed to happen when the parking guides are deployed on a 92 s-class?
The rods go up but I can get as close as I want and nothing happens.

Not a dumb question.......the rods only rise up to indicate the rear of the vehicle to the "vertically challeged" of us while backing audible or visible warning. The "Parktronic" system provides both a visual and audible warning when approaching most objects.....neat system.
