Question 190e starting problem

My 190e 2.6 has serious difficulty starting after sitting say overnight... it'll crank but in order to start & run you must pat the foot feed(accelerator) several time. then when it does start it tends to stumble for the first few minutes. after that it runs fine, no miss, no skip, no stumble... runs like it should..

does anyone have any thoughts or answers to my delima

any help would be greatly appreciated

Jerry

thanks

Have you cleaned you cold start injector, or even tested it? That is the most likely problem if the Water Temp Sensor did not fix it.

without sounding like a 'complete' idiot what are the procedures for testing a cold start injector....

also cleaning one... is that like performing a fuel injector/throttle body servicing?

thanks jerry

To test it you need to take it out and then apply 12V to one pin and ground to the other and you should hear it click, and feel it as well. Then you can spray some carb cleaner in there and kind of fill the tube and fire again you should see see a little squirt from the injector opening. Clean it and put it back in. If you want to see if the ECU is operating it then you need to wait til it is cold enough under 20 degrees I believe and remove it keeping the fuel line on it and turn the key to on! Without starting! You should see it fire, this is easier with two people.

I wouldn't spend alot of time on the injector itself. You might want to follow the advice about the signal. Pull it out and see if it squirts during cranking. I would also check fuel pressure. You will need a special fuel pressure tester. Once the car is started and warm, check primary pressure. Leave the gauge connected and shut the car off. Pressure should drop slightly then hold that pressure overnight. If fuel is bleeding down in the system, you will need to reprime the system on every cold start. You may also be having a problem in the idle air management circuit.

Good luck,
Peter

Jerry,
If it bleeds down, you will need to replace the check valve in the pump.

It could also be time to clean your injectors.

The easiest way is to use the "double-dose" of Techron Fuel Injector Cleaner in less than a full tank of fuel. After warmed up try and drive the car hard and into higher RPMs repeatedly.

ok... so if it bleeds down it's more than likely the ck valve in the pump.

also... a fuel inj. servicing

? - if i do the fuel inj service will that clean the cold start inj., too?

thanks jerry

ps since all this... i've also found that i've got a bad l/rear wheel bearing! any thought to DIY for a wheel bearing... is it simple??

Jerry,
I wouldn't spend alot of time worrying about fuel injectors to solve your problem. Also what makes you think you have a defective wheel bearing?

well... if i grab the left rear tire (when off the ground) it has alot of play in it. all lug nuts are tight and all the bushings appear to be solid.

any thoughts as to why i may be chasing the wrong problem with the fuel injct.?

also could it be possible (here comes the stupid ?) could i have gotten a faulty part (coolant temp sensor) to begin with.......

thanks jerry
