Question 300E 3.2 wiper problem

Has anyone had a problem with the front windshield wiper moving very slow? Mine recently started to be a problem. It travels at the same speed regardless of the speed selection. A couple of times I had to help it to the resting spot. I am not sure if it is a motor problem or something a little less expensive.

Thanks in advance for your feedback

Gary

Could be in the switch or a ground issue, check the fuse as well, try swapping a new fuse and see if it makes any difference.Good luck

This could also (very likely) be a problem with old, hardened grease in the wiper "transmission."

Do a search on "124 wiper transmission" and you'll see lots of posts about this. Some 124 wiper tranmsissions are easy to relube without taking them out of the car, and others need to be removed from the car to do this.

Hopefully you have only lubrication problem. My '99 C230 started to do the same thing a couple days ago.The wiper stopped in the middle yesterday night 70 km before my destination.I took it apart today. The plastik gear in the wiper motor is gone. The local dealer gave me a price $500 Can.I have only 68000km! Mercedes doesn't even want to talk about goodwill warranty. Can you guys help me,where can I find this part cheaper,in Canada.?!

wiper problem

Mine is still working. I have told my wife to leeave them off. I will pull out the transmission later this week and see what I have. Hopefully a good cleaning and grease will fix my problem.

Good luck on the job. I haven't tackled mine yet but have read about it. There's a nice pictoral spread somewhere on this site.

One recommendation I've read repeatedly is to use a digital camera to photograph the procedure as you disassemble the transmission, so you can be sure to get everything lined up properly when you put it together.

Do us a favor, if you would, and let us know how it comes out.

Hadn't seen that one before -- great photos, esp. of removing the air intake grill (which most instructions seem to gloss over).
Thanks for posting, Manny!

I did a search on "124 wiper transmission" and found Xhndax posted a great summary with pictures on how to grease this unit. I will let you know how it goes.

I finally found some time to look at the wiper transmission. I pulled off the wiper arm cover and found the rod that extends the reach of the wiper arm. I lubricated it with a penetrating grease and operated it. It moved like new. I followed up with Lubriplate grease and it is operating as it should. I never had to dismantle the transmission.
