Start Valve 1991 300CE 24V

does anyone know what this start valve does? Currently i am having problems when starting my car when it is cold. It takes 3-4 cranks before it starts. When starting the engine will catch then die, catch then die, catch, then idle real low and then go right to normal idle. Once the car is started it runs like a dream. I am attaching a diagram of where this valve is located and if someone can tell me if they think this could be the cause of my problem let me know!

Presume you mean the Cold Start Valve which I think is responsible for squirting extra fuel in at low temperatures.

Just picked this description up off the net for you:

Description and Operation
The cold start valve which is centrally located in the intake manifold injects fuel for a limited period to aid the starting process. The control of the cold start valve occurs according to a temperature related CIS-E control unit map that creates a pulsating injection of the start valve for a maximum of 10 sec during cranking. Cold start injection does not occur at coolant temperatures above 140°F. The current to the cold start valve is limited to 1.2 amps.

Regards,
Neil

I dont know if you are having the same problem I was but I JUST took in my 91 300CE to the shop because it had that problem. They said that what was causing it was the temperature sensor, which was broken in my car. Since it controlled the air/gas mixture, the car had no way of determining how much of either to distribute. That may be completely wrong but that is the description I got from my dad when he explained it to me, I hope that helps.
