Trans in Park Switch

The car I am working on is a 93 300E. The problem I am having is that on occassion the car will not crank. If I move the shift lever the car will crank. I believe the problem is in the interlock switch that is to confirm the car is in park.

Is there any adjustment on this switch or linkage?

Exclamation

The Park/Neutral switch is on the drivers side of the TRANSMISSION! That is the starting point.

Check the shifter rod bushings for wear/slop.
The Switch has 2 oblonged mounting holes that allow the sw. to be turned for adjustment...
These are common age failure item and prob just needs to be changed..

shifter safety switch

Before you do anything or replace, try this: Spray switch and contacts liberally with WD 40. This switch gets lots of dirt and spray. I had this problem, and Wd 40 did the trick, Good luck, Abe G

If all else fails , put the lever in “N,” loosen the two bolts , there is a hole on the selector lever on the transmission that goes into the switch, insert a 4mm drill bit shank through that hole while moving the switch on its axis, tighten the bolts. That is the adjustment for the switch.
