My 92 300D 2.5 turbo has what seems to be a little extra play in the drivetrain. The feeling is very much like a bad u-joint,however there is no noise at all. I have been told that MB uses some sort of flex disc instead of u-joints. I am taking the car to my mechanic soon and would like to understand the nature of this problem so as to communicate more effectively with him.
Could this "PLAY" also be a problem with the transmission?
The car has 170,000 miles and a questionable service history. I will probably have the trans flushed at the same time. Any thoughts on my situation would be greatly appreciated.

The transmission fluid should be replaced at 30k mile intervals on this car. I would tell the tech in your own words what you are feeling in the vehicle. This will give him the best idea where to look. Also, take him for a ride and show him what is happening. I do this often!
