EGR repair
I had a technician do the job (John Gardener, San Fran Mercedes repair) and he needed 2-hours to take off the EGR and found the hole it screws into (passenger side of engine on side of engine block, in the middle).. the hole was plugged, not necessarily the EGR. Hope that helps.

JBTB1103,
You have to get the codes from Pin 8 and 14 to get a better idea of what's going on. Make a led/sw, will cost around $10.00. Use the search function for instructions.

jbtb1103,
I will explain. Diagnostic Module, where you press the button and count the number of flashes, gives you emission related codes. That same module has several other pins, which can be used to get fault codes stored in modules like the Engine Control Module. The codes in the engine control modules can tell you things like the mixture is too lean or rich as an example. To get these codes, you can make a tool yourself out of parts bought from a store like Radio Shack. If you type led/sw in the search function, you will find the schematic and complete instructions for making this impulse scan tool. You can also buy this tool, but it will cost you several hundred dollars. Pin 14 stores the codes for EA/ISC/CC. These codes will tell you if the electronic throttle is working properly or not of if this module is communicating properly with the engine control module.
