W140 - how to remove a-pillar trim
The trim over the posts covering the a-pillars is peeling off in the S420. I'd like to remove the a-pillar covers so I can reglue the trim. How do these trim pieces come off? Looks like I should unclip from the rear edge then roll towards the windshield. Is this correct? Are there any clips that need to be undone or moved?
Thanks, Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

Sixto,
Just grab the pillar trim by the top and pull towards the center of the dash. It will pop right off. I recovered mine last year... easy task. Pull off all of the old fabric, spray the plastic trim piece with some adhesive, and stick a new piece of fabric on. A trip to your local fabric store will let you see lots of suitable fabric in different colors/finishes.

Nothing wrong with using old covering if its in good shape... mine wasn't. Once I got the trims pieces out where I could take a good look at them, they were faded from sunlight. Also, one of mine had a small rip, so I just replaced fabric covering on both. Cost about 5 bucks. Looks like new.

The sedan must be different from the coupe. My a-pillar cover goes almost an inch into the headliner trim.
I was able to release the clips along the rear edge but it won't come off because it's held by the headliner trim and I can't pull it downwards because of the dash. What to do, what to do? Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

Sixto- well, give me the "senior moment award" for having a short memory... I remember now that I had to remove the grab assist handle above the door window on each side (just pry the plastic covers off the ends to expose the bolts), pry the headliner side piece down enough in the front to clear the end of the A pillar trim piece and it will come out.
Sorry about the error... musta been a random short between the ears.
