Depending on how often you use the climate control, I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of every 4-5 years would be a good replacement schedule. It doesn't have to be replaced nearly as often as the dust filter.

I think the manual calls for every 50,000 miles on my car. The manual also calls for 30,000 mile change intervals for the dust filters. I find that I need to change the dust filters every 15,000 miles. I rarely use the charcoal filter, so I suspect I'll go at least 50,000 miles and probably more before I replace it again.

I have a '98 C280, and I know where the "charcoal filter" is and how to change it, but does mine have a separate "dust filter" also?
