1984 Mercedes 380se Idle control unit

I am still trying to figure out my idle problem. Is it possible to get a intermittant problem with the idle control unit. Everything else checks out. I changed the 10 amp fuse on the overload relay, cleaned the idle control valve. Could it be the idle control sensor? I also checked the voltage to the idle control valve and get about 8 volts. Is this correct. Any help is appreciated. Karl
