c220 security system question

i have a 1994 c220 and I dont know what happened, but i stopped for gas and when i got back in and tried to start it i turned the key and nothing happened. all lights on on dash. no activity under the hood. I let the car sit for about 10 minutes and it started perfect.. is there a ignition kill mechanism on that car???
I dont know much about it.. i bought it used.
thanks

I have a 96 SL. The security system is activated and de-activated by the master key. There are lights on my mirror that blink red and green. Red for activated and green for de-activated. The reason very few MB cars are stolen is because of the security measures that are standard in every vehicle. The security system disengages the starter. Are you using the IR master key to lock and unlock your car? Or are you putting the key in the lock? I don't know about the C class, but the 129 and 140 (S and SL) have a transponder that comunicates with the computer when you put the key in the ignition as well. I don't know anything about the C, but this is how mine works. Sometimes users can switch to their backup master key (the cars come with 2) and it will work better.
The security system can lock out the starter, but if your security system is functioning properly your problem could be your starter. Carry a meter with you and the next time it happens hook the meter to the starter and turn the ignition, if no voltage, hook it to the silenoid, if not voltage then it is likely your security system locking the starter out. If you have voltage at the starter, it is your starter, if at your silenoid and not your starter, it is your silenoid. Check the simple things first, starter motors can sometimes be quirky in just not wanting to work, letting it sit for 10 mins like you said probably allowed it to cool enough from the engine heat to wind up again. Good luck ! I don't know anything about those cars, but that is some basic things to check!
