Just wanted to pass along a good window fix tip. My car is a 1995 S-500 coupe. While driving yesterday, I started to put up pass window and heard a bang then the window tilted forward. I knew from past experience with my older 300-ce it was a window track and I was in for a wallet punch. With sky darkening I knew action was needed so with the help of a local BMW wizard off came the door panel. What had happened was where the lift arm attached to the slide on the window, the plastic piece broke and the arm end popped out in the track. Call to the dealer, no replacement plastic comes with the regulator for the small cost of $517.00. and not in stock to boot. It's a crazy two piece design. It looked like half this plastic piece was put in place before the arm end was attached. Sorry I did'nt take pictures but time was running out. So even if a found a plastic in a salvage yard there would be no way to reuse it. Then the BMW wizard told me of the BMW design. He said BMW used a piece that was close but there's arm end was shaped like a ball and the plastic slide was like a socket. When the ball was placed into the socket it was held in place by a spring load " U " shaped pin that snapped in place preventing the ball from coming out of the mount. The rest of my regulator looked fine, teeth not showing much wear. So I took the BMW piece. First I had to file it a bit to get it to fit and slide smoothly on the track attached to the window. Two Minute job. Then with a rat tail file I filed the "socket" part to except the flat head arm end on the benz. Took a little time because I wanted to save as much meat on the plastic as possible. When it finally fit I was able to secure the arm by putting the "U" pin in place. Applied a little grease into the tracks and better then new. Total cost $6.25 and a little elbow grease well worth it.
