alternator fitment question
fastlane lists a 70a and an 80a alternator for the '89 300TE. Assuming one has a 70a alt, is there any problem with getting an 80a to replace it?
Looking at all the alt. upgrades that people have done, it seems unlikely, but what you don't know can kill you... thanks k

You will need a wiring harness (124-543-45-26) $60 to install the 80A alternator. The electrical system will work much better with the extra NEEDED power!!! The 1990 & later cars came with that alternator.

If your going to change the wiring you may as well go with a 120 or 150 amp alt. It won't cost much more and you will get lots more power.
To go from 70 to 80 amps and change the wiring is a waist, just my 2 cents. .

questions
Can I higher amp Alt. cause any problems (shorter battery life?)
What sort of systems would be happier with a higher amp output?

I put a 125a alternator in my 300CD due to the requirements of the stereo I installed and although it was a tight fit it is fine and there was some rewiring that was necessary however it was minor...Lots of juice now...Whoopee....I seriously doubt you will see any change in battery life...If anything it is better for it as it will keep it charged much easier....
